It's that time of year again when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association brings
us America's favorite televised open bar: the 70th Annual Golden Globes, and the nominees
have been revealed.
Nominations for best motion picture in the drama category as well as for best director
are identical.  Both lists include, Ben Affleck's Argo, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained,
Ang Lee's Life of Pi, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, and Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty.
Zero Dark Thirty is definitely the favorite to win this year -- it's one of the best-reviewed
movies of all time.

It comes as no surprise to see the list of nominees being predominantly
fall and early winter releases.
What was surprising was the list of films nominated for best comedy or musical.  It
includes The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which was released in May of this year, and has
a sequel in development. Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, which was also a Summer release,
received a nomination.  Salmon Fishing in the Yemen was released in March of 2012.
Les Miserables, with a release date on Christmas Day, and Silver Linings Playbook, which is
out now, were also nominated.
The Hobbit is not nominated for anything.

The categories for best television shows also
boast an all-star lineup.  The best TV drama nominees include AMC's Breaking Bad, the bootlegging
Boardwalk Empire and Newsroom, both on HBO, Showtime's captivating Homeland, and, made
possible by viewers like you, PBS's British import, Downton Abbey.

The best TV comedy
or musical nominees consist of NBC's melodic dramedy, Smash. The Golden Globe winning veterans,
Big Bang Theory on CBS, the always funny Modern Family on ABC, Showtime's eccentric entertainment
industry series, Episodes, and HBO's new hipster series, Girls.

What are your predictions
for the 70th annual Golden Globes?  The show will air live on NBC, on January 13th, 2013
at 5 PM pacific and 8 PM Eastern, just two days before the nominations for the Academy
Awards nominations are released.  Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host this year. For
