Hey, I'm Keri Glassman, here with some quick and simple tips to help you feel just a little
bit better. It’s easy to look at food as fuel your body needs to go, or as something
to indulge in. But don’t forget that food has the potential to affect you in many other
ways, depending upon what cool nutrients it contains. Some foods can actually help relieve
stress. For example, avocados contain a little something called glutathione, a substance
that blocks intestinal absorption of damaging fats, which can cause oxidative stress. Cashews
contain zinc, which plays a role in hormone regulation, immune health, and neurological
function. If we are stressing out, our immune systems take a huge hit, so getting enough
zinc is going to help kick that cold. Dark chocolate is known to lower blood pressure,
and of course chocolate can brighten your mood even without that direct health benefit.
Green Tea contains an amino acid, theanine, which has been shown to protect against cancer
as well as being a brain booster and performance enhancer. And the act of drinking a warm mug
of tea is calming all on its own. And those are just a few of the potentially stress-reducing
foods. So remember: Food is what fuels you, but learning what nutrients are inside of
what you eat, and what they do, will have you feeling just a little bit better.
