The reach truck differs from a conventional counterbalanced forklift truck in two major areas
The first and immediately obvious one is the driving position
On a reach truck the operator is seated sideways to the direction of travel
The second differences is that the mast or carriage assembly can be extended or reached forward
or retracted
hence the name reach truck

why is it different and why is there a need for this type of machine?
