WILL BOWLES: So you have a story for us?
MAILE MARTINEZ: Yep.
WILL BOWLES: It's a science fiction story?
MAILE MARTINEZ: Yes, it is.
Very science fiction-y.
The story is called Robots Attacking the City!
In America, this evil scientist was building robots,
nice, kind of evil robots, just like him.
He was part robot.
He didn't have a family.
He only had his grandma.

He called them his robot family.

He made the robots lasers.
He tried to shoot the wall to see if they
were like a good aim.
It went straight through the wall.
And he said, these are good lasers.
He went and said, go destroy California.
JOSH FLAUM: Where in California.
MAILE MARTINEZ: Texas.
JOSH FLAUM: Texas, California.
WILL BOWLES: Texas, California.
And why did he want to destroy Texas, California?
MAILE MARTINEZ: Because that's where bullies
were bullying him.
The evil scientist set the robots to destroy.

[PHONE RINGING]
MAILE MARTINEZ: He had to go to his grandma's house.
Because she was dying of sickness.

JOSH FLAUM: What was her sickness?
MAILE MARTINEZ: Sickness flu.

Like so bolt soup, bolts and screws soup.
WILL BOWLES: Bolts, screws, and potatoes?
MAILE MARTINEZ: Mm hm.
JOSH FLAUM: That sounds good.
GRANDMA: [SPEAKING SPANISH]
MAILE MARTINEZ: She passed.
She was about to say, I love you.
But she didn't finish her sentence.
The evil scientist was depressed, sad.
He felt really terrible.
So he ran and ran until he reached the robots.

So he ran and said, stop!
Don't destroy these innocent people.
I just realized when my grandmother passed, I felt
really terrible.
And I don't want you to do the same to these innocent people.
CYBORG: Please, I like smiling.
ROBOT 1: We don't care about your grandma.
ROBOT 2: We want to attack the city.

MAILE MARTINEZ: The mad scientist turned
the switches off.
The robots melted.
What are you doin---

The people Of Texas were so happy, they were now safe.
MAYOR: Here's a key to the city.
MAILE MARTINEZ: And because of the evil scientist's bravery,
they threw him a celebration party.
And then he said, well, I'm a good scientist.
I'm never going to make robots that are evil again.
JOSH FLAUM: What did he do instead of making evil robots?
MAILE MARTINEZ: He became a dentist.
CYBORG: I'm becoming a dentist.
MAILE MARTINEZ: And he had like dozens of pictures of his
grandma and put them on his wall.
