WE'RE GETTING FROM YOU.
Debby: THERE IS NO TIMELINE
HOW LONG CAMERAS WILL STAY
BROKEN ALONG THE MONON TRAIL.
Reporter: THE MONON STRETCH
ALL THE WAY TO INDIANAPOLIS.
THE POLICE WON'T RELEASE WHICH
CAMERAS ARE BROKEN.
THOSE ARE FOR SECURITY REASONS.
Debby: JULIAN GRACE IS LIVE
FROM THAT LOCATION WITH MORE FOR
US.
Reporter: THE DIRECTOR OF
INDIANAPOLIS HOMELAND SECURITY
WAS TOO BUSY TO TALK TO US
TODAY, BUT A SPOKESPERSON HAD
PLENTY OF SAY.
THEY MONITOR THE CAMERAS ALONG
THE MONON 20 HOURS EACH DAY.
BUT THERE ARE FOUR HOURS WHEN NO
ONE IS WATCHING.
Reporter: THIS IS WHAT HE
DOES SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, HE
WALKS. AND HE USUALLY USE THIS
IS TRAIL AS HIS BACKDROP.
IT'S QUIET.
I LOVE THE PLACE.
IT'S QUIET.
I DON'T BOTHER NOBODY, AND
NOBODY BOTHERS ME.
Reporter: BUT A MAN WAS
ATTACKED AND THEN FOUR OF THE
SECURITY CAMERAS ON THE TRAIL
ARE BROKEN.
I'M INFURIATED THAT THERE IS
NOT SAFETY ON THESE TRAILS.
Reporter: EVEN WHEN THOSE
CAMERAS ARE WORKING, IT DOES NOT
NECESSARILY MEAN THAT THOSE
LENSES ARE RECORDING CRIME.
THIS IS WHAT I MEAN BY THAT.
THE CAMERAS ARE ON A ROTATION,
AND THEY'RE CONSTANTLY MOVING
FROM LEFT-TO-RIGHT.
WORKERS MONITOR 110 CAMERAS A
DAY IN THE COUNTY AND ALONG THE
MONON.
THE SPOKESPERSON SAID THE PAIR
TRY TO BE PROACTIVE.
THEY WATCH THE SURVEILLANCE
SCENARIO AND THEY REPORT A CRIME
IF THEY SEE IT.
ONCE AGAIN, THAT'S IF THEY SEE
IT.
ANYTHING THAT IS MANMADE,
SOMEBODY KNOW HOW TO BEAT IT.
Reporter: IT'S STORED FOR 30
DAYS UNLESS THE FOOTAGE IS PART
OF THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION.
HAVE YOU FELT NERVOUS OR
SCARED WALKING ALONG THE MONON?
NO.
Reporter: AS FAR AS
MR. MURRAY IS CONCERNED, HE'S
NOT PLACING HIS FAITH IN THE
CAMERAS BUT IN THE MAN ABOVE.
Reporter: THE HOMELAND
SECURITY DEPARTMENT SAID THEY
HAVE HIRED AN OUTSIDE VENDOR TO
REPAIR THE CAMERAS, AND WE ASKED
SPECIFICALLY WHEN THE CAMERAS
WILL BE REPAIRED, BUT THEY TOLD
US THEY CAN'T ANSWER THAT JUST
YET.
Debby: ARE THESE IN THE RIGHT
AREAS ALONG THE MONON TRAIL.
ARE THEY IN HIGH-CRIME SPOTS.
Reporter: THAT'S A GREAT
QUESTION, BUT WE SIMPLY DO NOT
KNOW.
THEY'VE BEEN SECRETIVE ON
EXACTLY WHERE THESE CAMERAS ARE.
WE CAN WALK ALONG THE MONON AND
YOU CAN SPOT THEM, BUT WE DON'T
HAVE AN EXACT NUMBER BECAUSE
THEY HAVE NOT RELEASED THAT.
Debby: JULIAN, THANK YOU VERY
MUCH.
Eric: WHICH WANTED TO KNOW IF
BROKEN SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS ON
THE MONON EFFECT YOUR USE OF THE
TRAIL.
