Here is a new to me lathe.
when i was one possible motor there
The shaft has a tiny bit of wobble.
Just a tiny wobble.
You probably don't see it with me turning it.
It shows up at higher speed.
Okay, that is an air conditioner motor.
This is not suppose to be used for this lathe.
It has the speed, but not the start up power
Okay, you cannot see here
seventeen twenty five
1725 rpm and 1150 rpm.
Oh yes, it is a two speed motor.
This is a wreck on this end.
This whole section is not in great shape.

This is not in all that great shape.
and you see..
and then you can see 4 step pulley up here and one on the motor.
and then you can see 4 step pulley up here and one on the motor.
It would be nice to have a 4 step pulley on the motor, but they cost 1/2 as much as a new motor.

You can see the original switch is all busted up. This is my intended switch arrangement.
2 switches. One on off and the other for the speeds.
with them
I have to deal with what I have.
Harbor Freight chisels
for example
As you can see here
I have tried it out
uh...
permanently damaged or
four-by-four today
just to play with it
Think that those switches will be unsafe, I used a very unsafe method to test it.
There it is. It runs just fine.
There it is. It runs just fine.
The head stock and tail stock were rusted in place. It was hard to get started.
It has only the single pipe for the support.
So the rust was a problem.
So the head stock and tail stock move as they are meant to now.
As far as the new switches are concerned I will be working on the safety issue.
They won't be exposed when I get finished.
I would like to cover the switches.
So if I slap the cover the switches will turn off.
You will reach in to turn them on but hitting the flap will turn them off.
As far as the new switches are concerned I will be working on the safety issue.
It will have an emergency turn off when I am finished.
These harbor freight chisels will have to do until I can afford better.
The board is not in there well and the tool rest is too low.

That is why I am standing far wa
where he does
anyway
because if it made me
I will do the switch arrangement tomorrow.
t

There it is up and working.
The great vibration I have read about is not evident.
It worried me.
The single pole arrangement seems to the the cause., but it is not evident.
It may not have the least vibration of any lathe, but it is not bad.
Not bad at all with up to a 4 by 4.
If you consider the cost me, it is a bargain.
The box came to me free. and the switches came from a box at the local ham radio club I gave a quarter for.

That motor there was free.
that motor is from now defunct air conditioner
The air conditioner leaked so I pulled this motor.
soooooo
That is about it. Oh, it goes way out there. It is longer then 37 inches.
Now if I can get some nice hardwood, I know where Yules presents will be coming from.
Now if I can get some nice hardwood, I know where Yules presents will be coming from.
Oh yes,
This a piece of the pine that blew out when I turned the 4 by 4.
It appears pine is not for beginners to turn.
Oh well,
That section right there is the part that gave right at the brown part.

That is what I assume from what I could see on the inside of the 4 by 4.

And I most likely have some pieces of hardwood around here some place I can use.
or claim and
start turning tomorrow/
Okay, uh...
let you go with that
I need to clean up and especially the motor before I use this again.
looks like it's going to be the dust magnet
Catch you later.
