>> I'M GETTING ONE RIGHT HERE,
RIGHT HERE BUDDY.
>> THE FISHING PROS MAKE IT
LOOK NATURAL BUT CASTING TAKES
A LITTLE BIT OF PRACTICE.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF
OUR MOST POPULAR ROD AND REEL
COMBOS AND HOW TO CAST THEM
PROPERLY AND SAFELY.
THE SIMPLEST ROD IS THE GOOD
OLD CANE POLE THAT'S BEEN
USED FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS.
CANE POLES ARE INEXPENSIVE
AND EASY FOR SMALL CHILDREN
TO HANDLE.
ANOTHER EASY-TO-USE
ROD AND REEL IS THE
SPINCASTING COMBO.
SPINCASTING RODS ARE GREAT FOR
KIDS AND BEGINNING ANGLERS.
SPINCASTERS ARE EASY TO
MASTER IF YOU FOLLOW THESE
FEW BASIC STEPS.
TO BEGIN YOUR CAST, FACE
YOUR TARGET AREA WITH YOUR
BODY SLIGHTLY ANGLED.
AIM THE ROD TIP TOWARD THE
TARGET AT EYE LEVEL.
HOLD THE ROD'S HANDLE WITH
ONE HAND AND WITH YOUR THUMB,
PUSH THE REEL'S BUTTON IN.
LOOK BEHIND YOU, TO THE SIDE
AND ABOVE BEFORE YOU CAST SO
YOU DON'T SNAG YOUR HOOK
OR INJURE SOMEONE.
RAISE THE ROD BACK AND WHEN
THE ROD REACHES EYE LEVEL
LET GO OF THE BUTTON
TO RELEASE YOUR LINE.
SIMPLY TURN THE HANDLE
TO REEL IT BACK IN.
A SPINNING REEL IS
SLIGHTLY MORE ADVANCED.
THE OPEN-FACED REEL ALLOWS
THE LINE TO SPOOL OFF QUICKLY.
IT TAKES A LITTLE PRACTICE
TO GET THE HANG OF
A SPINNING REEL.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT IT
STEP BY STEP.
HOLD THE ROD'S HANDLE
AND HOLD THE LINE TO THE ROD
WITH YOUR FOREFINGER.
WITH YOUR OTHER HAND,
OPEN THE REEL'S BAIL.
CHECK YOUR CASTING AREA,
RAISE THE ROD BACK
AND BEGIN YOUR CAST.
WHEN THE ROD COMES TO
EYE LEVEL, STRAIGHTEN YOUR
FOREFINGER TO RELEASE THE LINE.
CLOSE THE BAIL TO BEGIN
REELING IN YOUR LINE.
THERE ARE ROD AND REEL TYPES
THAT TAKE A LITTLE MORE
INSTRUCTION AND PRACTICE.
BUT WITH THESE BASIC ROD
AND REEL COMBOS YOU CAN
CATCH ALL KINDS OF FISH.
SO TAKE A COUPLE OF PRACTICE
CASTS AND YOU'LL GET THE
HANG OF IT.
>> ONE OF MY BIGGEST CASTING
BOO-BOOS WAS OUT IN THE
MIDDLE OF THE TEXAS COAST
ON THE FLATWATERS.
AND I DIDN'T LOOK AROUND ME
AND CAST AND GOT THE HOOK
CAUGHT RIGHT IN THE BACK
OF MY BATHING SUIT.
AND THERE WAS NOBODY TO
HELP ME FIX THAT.
AND I WAS LIKE,
HOW DO I GET THIS OUT?
AND I LITERALLY HAD TO TAKE MY
BATHING SUIT OFF RIGHT THERE IN
THE MIDDLE OF THE BAY WITH A
TOWEL AROUND ME AND TAKE THE
BARB, THE HOOK OUT AND THEN PUT
MY BATHING SUIT BACK ON IN THE
TOWEL AND CONTINUE FISHING
AND NOBODY KNEW.
