Times and Seasons Lesson 21

Welcome. Come in and join us in this 28 part series called Times and Seasons dealing with
Ecclesiastes 3 and the 28 subjects of life God will allows us to walk through. In all
of them the Lord wants us to recognize this is the time within a season that has a purpose.
We need to look for the purpose we can glean out of the type of season it is. It may be
a bitter winter but there is a purpose, something to glean out of it worth hanging on to that
God uses and multiplies, even to minister to others coming along behind, walking through
the same experience. Sometimes its Spring, thats my favorite, a time of joy. Its a bounce
in your spirit, an elation and praise. Its a sunny day, flowers are blooming; birds are
singing and you speak hope to those in winter and say, Hey, hang on there, dont give up
and soon the Lord will bring you out and youll be singing His praises again. The Lord uses
seasons, but thank God they change. This is lesson 21 about a time and season with a purpose
To Rend. Ecclesiastes 3:1,7 says, TO EVERYTHING there is a season, and a time for every matter
or purpose under heaven: A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and
a time to speak. Theres a time to rend things and a time to sew things. Im showing you,
the negative and positive. Even the negatives, you can find you a plus dimension if you want
God to turn it profitable. The Lord has promised to profit the way of His servants. He said
I will lead you in a way that is profitable. God can turn stumbling stones into stepping
stones if we dont use them as excuses to sit on the sideline and give up – but get up
and go on in the strength of His name – not your strength. You cant do it in your strength,
but depending on His strength. As you ask, He gives it. He promised your strength would
be equal to your battle. Hes promised to give you your daily bread to keep you on track
and keep you going. Someone is listening and you feel like you cant put one foot ahead
of the other. But in the name of Jesus rise up, though your ankles seem weak, rise up
in the name of Jesus and walk. Walk in His name, not yours. By faith the Lord will take
your hand and His strength will come into your ankles and youll go to a higher, better
place where youll shout and praise and say Look where God brought me from. He brought
me up and out and took me forward. Now Im headed for more in God. The Lord wants to
do that in your life. Lets go to our subject of Rend. Ecclesiastes 3:1,7 concerning A Time
To Rend. The Living Bible says to tear. The word tear is used instead of the word rend,
that we used in the Amplified. In Hebrew, the root meaning is to tear or cut out. Websters
Dictionary defines the word to rip with violence, to pull apart or split in two. Picture it,
take a piece of cloth and with two hands rip it right down the middle. Thats what rending
something is like. What kind of things might God rend? Did you know there are things God
says He will rend and we would like God to rend. I like to pray like Isaiah prayed. I
think its good to pray scriptures. Our prayers can be effective if from our hearts, we move,
like you put your foot in a shoe that fits – theres a scripture and it fits the need.
This is the way I feel in my spirit, I put myself in and pray this with Isaiah. You might
want to pray with me. Isaiah 64: 1 and the plea is OH, THAT You would rend the heavens
and that You would come down, that the mountains might quake and flow down at Your presence.
Isaiah is calling on God from the pit of his belly, Oh God, that Youd come down, rip apart
the heavens and show Yourself. Let Your presence flow down that mountainside. The Lord is yearning
to give a visitation among man. He wont do that if we dont call on His name. Its when
we call on His name and cry out for His visitations that God comes. The great revivals in history
came because people cried out for God to visit and bring revival. Lets not expect it to be
dumped in our lap because God thinks it ought to happen. He said Call on Me and I will answer,
I will show thee the great and mighty things you dont know about. Hes waiting. If we dont
do the calling, Hes not going to do the coming. Isaiah is crying out to God to rend the heavens,
Lord, unveil Your face. Let the people feel Your presence and the mountains quake. My
heart cries out that Gods people will have a move of the Holy Ghost that will be like
he prayed –people will feel the presence of God because things happen. Hardened hearts
melt in the presence of God. Its like butter being put out in the noon-day sun. It melts.
Some of the hardest will melt when the presence of the Lord comes. We need to pray for visitations
of the Spirit so people in our generation know that God is God indeed and surrender
their lives to Him, that many that are lukewarm will be turned to have a fire burning in their
bones for the kingdom of God. So God will rend the heavens, but weve got to ask. This
is about the heavens opening up and God showing His power. Ezekiel God says Hes going to rend
the very foundations and expose the filth in His Church. God, help us. If the Lord decides
to rend the foundations of the Church and expose the things that go on – God have
mercy – because some of it would not be pretty. It would be like in Ezekiels day,
the priests put plaster over this wall they built. Behind the wall they were doing abominable,
unholy things, detestable to God. Yet they were the ministry there were things not right;
filthy. But they put up a front so people couldnt see and Im afraid that happens, in
individual lives and also in ministry and the church as a whole. We need God to visit
in a way we will be called to godly living. So our yea will be yes and our nay will be
no; what we say, we mean and its genuine, and our being is truth. Ezekiel 13:11-14 says,
Say to them who daub it with whitewash that it shall fall! There shall be a downpour of
rain; and you, O great hailstones, shall fall, and a violent wind shall tear apart [the whitewashed,
flimsy wall]. Behold, when the wall is fallen, will you not be asked; Where is the coating
with which you [prophets] daubed it? Therefore thus says the Lord God: I will even rend it
with a stormy wind in My wrath, and there shall be an overwhelming rain in My anger
and great hailstones in wrath to destroy [that wall]. So will I break down the wall that
you have daubed with whitewash and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundations
will be exposed; when it falls, you will perish and be consumed in the midst of it. And you
will know (understand and realize) that I am the Lord. You say, I dont like those verses.
Those make God sound mean. God is loving and kind but holy. His loving kindness and mercy
is what draws us to Him. God does not put up with hypocritical fronts long. There is
a time of justice for the phony, those who pretend to be something theyre not. Priests
of that day - their foundation was with corrupt. God said this wall theyd put up to hide behind
and plaster over - they had daubed it with whitewash. Thats why we use the expression
about white-washing something, we put a whitewash on it so you cant see whats behind. God says,
Im going to rend it with a storm and it will be exposed. You will find those that have
stood before masses and have had the praises of man, for their relationship with God –the
foundation is exposed and that can be humiliating. Also, it can be quite stumbling when people
find out its not genuine. God help us to pursue godliness so God doesnt have to deal that
way. God doesnt do that because Hes in a bad mood. He usually deals and He convicts first.
And for a season, He gives people grace and tolerance, waiting for them to repent. There
comes a deadline like a finger drawing a line in the sand. Things change; and the change
comes onstage. We cannot fool with God. Are there things we need to rend? What? Theres
a season in which things should be rent. There was this cry that came from the heart of God
in Joel 2: 12-14 Therefore also now, says the Lord, turn and keep on coming to Me with
all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning [until every hindrance is
removed and the broken fellowship is restored]. Rend your hearts and not your garments and
return to the Lord, your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding
in loving-kindness; and He revokes His sentence of evil [when His conditions are met]. Who
knows but what He will turn, revoke your sentence [of evil], and leave a blessing behind Him
[giving you the means with which to serve Him], even a cereal or meal offering and a
drink offering for the Lord, your God? Gods people had come to a place with God that was
so sad, pitiful and ungodly He said its time to turn, come back to Him with fasting, weeping,
mourning, grieve and have regret for sins. He said Dont come to Me carrying your garments
open, saying Oh, this is awful. Let your heart be broken and open your heart to God. The
Lord is saying He doesnt want phonies trying to worship Him. He wants us to rend our heart,
not just outer clothes that man can see. He sees what is in the heart. Man looks on the
outer, the scripture says, but God looks upon the heart. The rending of a garment is not
sufficient. Some people pretend to repent but its only appearance. In their heart, theyve
not repented, their life do not change and go to victory. God wants sincere remorse and repentance. In the Living Bible, Joel
2: 11-14 says, The Lord leads them with a shout. This is his mighty army and they follow
his orders. The day of the judgment of the Lord is an awesome, terrible thing. Who can
endure it? That is why the Lord says, Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me all
your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, mourning. Let your remorse tear at your hearts and not
your garments. Return to the Lord for he is gracious and merciful. He is not easily angered;
he is full of kindness, and anxious not to punish you. Perhaps yet he will decide to
give you a blessing instead of his terrible curse. Perhaps he will give you so much that
you can offer your grain and wine to the Lord as before! He wants sincere remorse. So theres
a time, not only for God to rend things but on the other end we should rend our heart
and not appearance. What are the persons, situations, places that we need to rend, to
tear away? That can be painful. Such as those who have prayed, worked, obeyed, been in an
area of service for the Lord or ministry. This has been your spiritual baby but God
says, its time for you to tear away from this. I have something else for you. God does move
us. I dont believe in church hopping, but sometimes God moves you for more growth. To
a different church; a different location; a different country; a different place to
expand your growth in Him. Its like tearing your heart apart to let go. Im slow to take
hold of things. Im very curious, very cautious. I have to be almost shoved into things by
God. But once I take hold I dont want to let go. God has to make me know for sure I can
let go. But its painful to let go because it becomes my spiritual baby. I remember the
time the Lord put me to serve in a church that was not full gospel; they didnt believe
in the inspiration of the Word. Most of the people in the church were not born again - they
were very religious. But the Lord caused me to go there. I was to be there kind as a missionary
in disguise and the Lord opened wonderful places of ministry among them. They received
me by a miracle of God. I didnt flaunt a more spiritual level than they. I was there to
serve and God gave me favor. It was a miracle, the way the Lord fit me in. That became my
spiritual baby because God did precious things and the people loved me and I loved them in
the Lord. After seven years as adult Bible teacher and sometimes filling in for the pastor
– when the Lord said its time to leave. I said, Oh no Lord, youve been working; How
can I let this go? I found myself crying, weeping for three days. The tears would not
stop. It was like someone took a baby from my breast. The Lord moved me to a different
place of service. I know what it is to have to tear yourself away from things that God
has attached you to. As youre listening to me, God is dealing with you that your time
is winding down and Hes taking you into a new avenue of service. Its going to be hard
to let go but dont stay too long where God is through. The Spirit will move on and youll
be working in the flesh. If its not a ministry its a career. God causes circumstances where
its time to change, to rend your heart from there. It could be a situation God would have
you rend yourself from, tear away from. That is a season God will take you through and
it takes His grace. Dont be surprised if there are tears. God understands tears. I couldnt
help think about Samuel when that happened to me. He was the prophet of God and ministered
all these years but a day came when they didnt want him anymore. They wanted a king like
the nations around them. Poor Samuel felt like they had rejected his ministry and he
mourned before God. God had to straighten up his thinking. And said Samuel, dont mourn
anymore for these people. Its not you theyve rejected, its Me. Ill give them a king. The
consequences will come with it. We can experience this if God gives us favor, Hes given us success
and blessing and were not ready to move yet. But you dont want to jump out of the boat
too soon, either. Be sure and look for Gods seasons and times in you life. There is a
time to rend, to tear apart and it hurts. Something that youve been sewed to – to
have to undo those bonds is not easy. What about when God requires you rend your heart
from individuals. there are people God gives you a burden for –I dont like to use illustrations
personally but the Spirit has prompted me to. There was an individual who from their
childhood – the Lord put on my heart to intercede for. I was to intercede for that
child because it was in a household that was not good. God put on me I was to pray for
that child like my own. I did that for many years till that person was grown. They didnt
know this. It was a secret between me and God. But that person - as they matured and
had opportunities to know about right and wrong and to make choices, they were exposed
to the things of God, but chose their own way. A day came when the Lord said Alright,
its over. Rend your heart now, let go. The Lord would take it up another way, perhaps
through another vessel. I travailed, cried, I felt like a baby had been ripped from my
breast again. There may be someone –its time - youve ministered, youve sacrificed
for. Dont give up because youre weary. Usually if its of God, the flesh is willing to hang
on but God says Let go, trust Me, Ill take care of it another way. Another place we might
rend, is associations spiritually that weve been climbing in the things of God. Abraham
was told to climb Mt Moriah and sacrifice Isaac. He left the servants at a lower place
and went by himself. There will be times when associations are not willing to move higher
with God. They would be a hindrance and hold you back if you stayed there. You must rend
your heart and move on. Theres a time for alterations that we might have things tailored
for times and the seasons; let seams out if the garment is too tight; enlarge the borders.
Is God dealing with you, that this is your season to rend? Something must be taken apart
so something new can be put in. May God help you in that season. Next time is
A Time To Sew. God bless you, I pray. Amen.
