Beginners Cha Cha - The New York Ballroom Dance Lesson

Uploaded by aanw97 on 30.12.2007

We begin with variation number one called the New York.
We begin: one, two, three, cha, cha, cha, step, step,
cha, cha, cha, step, step, cha, cha, cha.
As the man dances the back basic, the lady dances the forward basic.
We’re going to open the side like this: step, step, cha, cha, cha.
We’re starting to open. Keep this hand.
We step across; man’s left, lady’s right foot, towards
you. Step, replace.
We’re side-by-side. On the cha, cha, cha,
we turn to face each other. Cha, cha, cha.
We change hands and now we keep turning
and step on this side. Step, replace, cha, cha, cha.
On each side, we always step forward with the inside foot,
the foot closest to our partner. And step, step, cha, cha, cha.
We keep turning, we don’t stop here, we keep turning the body,
and as we pass each other, we change hands.
The lady keeps the hand forward in front of her so that the man can change easily;
the man can take the hand grip with the thumb on top or the fingers on top,
it doesn’t matter, so I can switch very easily.
Now ladies, keep it easy for yourself, and for the man, palms down.
Inside foot on each side. Keep turning on each side.
Now, I did about two hundred of these, trying to tell you everything we can.
Now, how do we stop? Two hand,
easiest way. I’ll do that again.
If you keep changing hands, the lady will keep doing it with you.
Now, for the last one, I take two hands.
She now knows you want to stop the New York.
We’ll go back to basic: the man goes back, right foot,
the lady goes forward, left foot. Step, step, cha, cha, cha,
take dance hold casually, don’t rush,
back to basic. So the whole thing is basic.
Open from the man’s back basic, step through, keep the body turning,
changing hands. You can do any number;
we’ll do five of these. So we’ll end the same way we started,
on this side; we take double hand hold, the man steps back and the lady steps forward.
We take up dance hold nice and easy.
So basic, cha, cha, cha, step, step, cha, cha, cha, open,
step across, change hands, third New York,
fourth New York, fifth New York, take double hand hold,
man steps back, lady steps forward, basic step.
That’s our first version of the New York. So we’ll dance that to music.
Alright, and as we did it again, I purposely turned it so that I can
show you at different angles. Eventually you’ll be able to turn it
on your own, but again, later on. Now, we have different ways to come back
into basic from the New York. I showed you the double hand hold.
You can do it without a double hand hold; just come back into the dance hold.
This will be more popular…
