IN KEARNY MESA. THEY JOINED 11 OTHER BREWERIES OPERATING IN
THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME YOU TURN AROUND A
MICROBREWERY OR BEER BAR IS POPPING UP IN SAN DIEGO.
THE LOCAL CRAFT BEER INDUSTRY IS BOOMING AND ATTRACTING NATIONAL ATTENTION.
MAYOR JERRY SANDERS IS AT THE CENTER OF IT ALL.
THE MAYOR WAS ON HAND AT SOCIETY'S GRAND OPENING. HE POURED CEREMONIAL BEER AND PRESENTED SMITH
AND DOUGLAS WITH A PROCLAMATION FROM THE CITY. >> >>: TODAY IS SOCIETY BREWING COMPANY DAY
IN THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO. >> >>: WHILE BEING THE GUEST OF HONOR AT A
BREWING OPENING MAY BE A PERK OF THE JOB, THE LOCAL CRAFT BEER INDUSTRY, IS SOMETHING
SANDERS TAKES SERIOUSLY. I SAT DOWN WITH THE MAYOR AT TORONADO.
WE TALKED ABOUT SAN DIEGO'S BEER BUSINESS. WHAT ARE HIS FAVORITE CRAFT BEERS?

TO THE CRAFT BEER INDUSTRY IS BRINGING TO THE CITY.
HE SAYS FOR EVERY JOB CREATED IN A BREWERY, NEARLY SIX MORE ARE CREATED AS A RESULT.
SAN DIEGO'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICE ESTIMATES THERE ARE NOW 1200 CRAFT BEER RELATED JOBS
IN THE CITY. AND MORE EXPECTED AS THE INDUSTRY CONTINUES
TO GROW. THIS PART OF THE ECONOMY RANKS RIGHT UP THERE WITH BIOTECH AND WIRELESS SECTOR
SANDERS SAYS. HE SAYS SAN DIEGO'S BEER CLUSTER IS OUT PACING
OTHER BUSINESS CLUSTERS. >> >>: IT'S THE FASTEST GROWING WE HAVE AND
IT ALSO PROVIDES TREMENDOUS JOB OPPORTUNITIES, GOOD PAYING JOBS AND IT'S REALLY PUTTING SAN

ASSIGNED TO HELPING BREWERIES OPEN. HE SAYS SAN DIEGO'S ALSO WORK WOULD ITS POLICE
DEPARTMENT TO HELP IT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TASTING ROOMS AND BARS.
AT SOCIETY, DOUGLAS SAYS THE CITY HELPED TO GET THRINGS TO RUN THINGS SMOOTHLY.
