I wanted to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. I’ll be spending time
this Christmas with my family, with Justine, Daniel and Samuel, our newest arrival. Christmas
is a special time because it is a chance to rest, to reflect, and to spend time with the
ones you love. It’s a chance that we too often don’t get during the course of the
year. I know there’ll also be people up and down this country trudging through snow
and ice to spend time with their families, and I wish them well. Also, and this is something
that’s special about Britain, there will be people that are reaching out to those without
family, to friends, and inviting them into their home and celebrating together. I think
also of those who will be apart from their families this Christmas, particularly our
troops serving in Afghanistan. My thoughts are with them and their families, left behind
here in Britain. Above all I want to wish you a restful Christmas period and a successful
2011.
