>> Steve: “Hi, it’s Steve from Partselect. Today we are going to try to diagnose a variety
of unusual noises that can come from a malfunctioning dryer. Every dryer will sound slightly different
but I can help you identify your problem based on different noises.”
“Now that you have a better idea of your problem and can identify where the sound is
coming from and what, if any, parts you need to replace, go to Partselect.com. There you
can order your parts and find more information about your specific repair.”
“If your dryer is making a squeaking or squealing noise it could be a number of problems.
High pitched noises like squeaking tell us that the part that we are looking for is fast-moving
like *fast moving parts that squeak*. Sometimes you do not need to replace any parts. *non-part
causes of high-pitched noise* If it sounds like this (audio clip of bad
drum bearing) you will need to check your drum bearing (hold up drum bearing). *instructions
on finding drum bearings and how to tell if it’s gone bad*
If the squeaking sounds like this (audio clip of bad idler pulley) you will need to repair
your idler pulley. (Hold up idler pulley). *instructions on finding idler pulley etc…*
If the squeaking sounds like this (audio clip of bad glide) you will need to repair your idler
pulley. (Hold up glide). *instructions on finding idler pulley etc…*”
“If your dryer is making a thumping noise we are going to look at slow moving parts. Any low pitch
noise is related to the bigger, slower moving parts such as *slow moving parts*. The first
thing you should do is check to see in something is caught in your drum. *checking drum instructions*
If the thump sounds like this (audio clip of bad belt) you will need to check your belts.
*instructions on finding and inspecting belts* If the thumping noise sounds like this (audio
clip of bad rollers) you will need to have a look at your drum rollers. *instructions
on finding and inspecting drum rollers* If the thump sounds like this (audio clip
of bad baffle) you will need to check your baffle for signs of wear. *instructions on
inspecting baffle* (baffle is not a top part for this symptom)”
“If your dryer makes a rattling noise it is possible that something is caught in your
drum, so check there first. If it’s not something caught in your drum
and it sounds like this (audio clip of bad blower wheel) the next likely place to look
is your blower wheel. *instructions on finding and checking blower wheel.*”
“When your motor goes it can make a variety of different noises (audio of bad motor noises).
If you hear a noise that can’t be explained with any of our other diagnoses the place
to look is the motor. Motors tend to make a noise all their own when malfunctioning.
Motors make different noises because there are different parts within the motor that
can go wrong. Most of the time the only way to solve these problems is to replace the
motor.
