22NEWS REPORTER LAURA HUTCHINSON
TELLS US HOW SOME HAVE SIGNED A
PETITION.
SOME PEOPLE ARE BEING ASKED TO
WORK JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT ON
BLACK FRIDAY OR EVEN ON
THANKSGIVING IN SOME CASES- AND
THOSE UNHAPPY WORKERS HAVE
TURNED TO THE INTERNET TO VOICE
THEIR FRUSTRATIONS.
BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING GETS EVEN
EARLIER. SOME RETAIL GIANTS LIKE
WALMART AND SEARS ANNOUNCED
PLANS TO OPEN THEIR DOORS AT
8:00 THANKSGIVING NIGHT, HOPING
YOU'LL GET OUT AND SHOP RIGHT
AFTER YOUR TURKEY DINNER. BUT
NOT EVERYONE IS HAPPY ABOUT THE
HOLIDAY START TIME.
THEY'RE OPEN ENOUGH, I DON'T
THINK THEY NEED TO OPEN ON
THANKSGIVING. SOME EVEN STARTED
VOICING THEIR FRUSTRATIONS
ONLINE. PEOPLE WHO THINK IT'S
UNFAIR ARE SIGNING AN ONLINE
PETITION.
AS THE HOLIDAY GETS CLOSER, YOU
CAN ANTICIPATE TO START SEEING
MORE FLYERS INDICATING THAT
STORES LIKE KOHLS AND TARGET
WILL BE OPENING ON THANKSGIVING
DAY BUT SOMETHING FOR YOU TO
KEEP IN MIND, THAT ONLY APPLIES
IN STATES WHERE IT'S ALLOWED.
THEY WILL NOT BE OPENING ON
THANKSGIVING HERE IN
MASSACHUSETTS.
MASSACHUSETTS STILL HAS BLUE
LAWS WHICH PREVENTS STORES FROM
OPENING ON THANKSGIVING, WHILE
SURROUNDING STATES DON'T. AS A
RESULT, SHOPPERS MAY BE CROSSING
STATE LINES TO SPEND THEIR
MONEY, AND PEOPLE WONDER IF IT'S
SOMETHING MASSACHUSETTS SHOULD
DO.
FROM A MORAL OR THANKSGIVING
STANDPOINT, I DON'T THINK THE
STORES SHOULD BE OPEN. I THINK
EMPLOYEES SHOULD HAVE THE DAY
OFF, FROM A COMPETITIVE
STANDPOINT, MAYBE THAT'S
SOMETHING THE STATE HAS TO DO.
STILL THERE ARE THOSE WHO THINK
A MIDNIGHT OPENING ON BLACK
FRIDAY IS EARLY ENOUGH.
THAT SEEMS INSANE, PEOPLE GOING
SHOPPING AT 12 OR 1:00, I CAN'T
UNDERSTAND THAT, YOU CAN'T BE IN
THAT MUCH NEED THAT YOU HAVE TO
BE UP AT MIDNIGHT TO GO
SHOPPING.
SOME BUSINESSES OBTAIN SPECIAL
PERMITS TO OPEN ON THE HOLIDAY.
IF YOU THINK A BUSINESS IS
VIOLATING OUR STATES BLUE LAWS,
YOU'RE ASKED TO REPORT IT TO THE
ATTORNEY GENERAL. LIVE IN THE
