Manatees, also known as sea cows are slow
swimming, gentle giants with no natural enemies. Their average size is 9-10 feet long, weighing
about 1,000 pounds. But they can grow as large as 13 feet and 3,000 pounds. It is believed
that they can live 60 years or more! When snorkeling, they will often come to greet
the swimmers and even roll over to be tickled.
After the boat ride and on the way to Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, there is a stop at
a waterside restaurant for lunch. After lunch, the day continues with a visit to the fantastic
Homosassa Springs Park, one of Florida's best kept secrets and a showcase for Florida wildlife.
Visitors have the opportunity to observe native
animals, birds and plants in their natural setting. Take a walk along the beautiful board
walk and see hugo, bear, white-tailed deer, bobcats, otters and fox. And, also visit the
underwater viewing chamber to see the Manatees.
