Spring is in the air! At least, it is here.
So it's time to exchange your car for a convertible.
The CLK is dead...
Long live the E-Convertible!
It's great to be driving topless...
especially in this beautiful weather.
But when you've got the hood down on the motorway it can get pretty windy.
Especially when you're going 120, 130 or 140 km/h.
But Mercedes came up with a solution for that...
you could roll up the windows...
but they have also introduced the aerodynamic Aircap Spoiler.
It makes sure that the turbulence is banned from the cabin almost completely.
Which is really nice and enables you to always drive open...
in every season, as long as it's dry.
The Aircap ensures that the air keeps circulating in the car.
So that in winter, warm air stays in the car...
while in summer when you've got the a/c on...
cold air doesn't leave the car either.
Which makes it really comfortable.
The only downside is that if you fart in the car...
it also doesn't leave the cabin.
I must honestly admit, don't tell anyone I said this...
that in my opinion the E-Class is not really a beautiful car.
The front looks nice, but especially the back of the car...
makes you wonder if the designer may have gotten confused.
I also believe that is the case with the E Coupe...
but especially with the E-Convertible when it's got the top off...
it is definitely a very appealing car.
The previous CLK was a bit corny..
and they definitely got rid of that with this one.
The engine in the E500 that we're driving today also isn't corny...
5.5 liters, V8, 388 hp.
If you want to feel rich, you should definitely choose the 8 cylinder...
because it drives so much smoother...
a wave of torque, a lot of power.
That 7 gear automatic that shifts smoothly between gears...
it's a real pleasure to drive.
It doesn't really have a very stiff suspension.
but there is a sport button...
so you can stiffen the dampers a little...
and make the automatic shift more easily.
You really need to order that button...
because in the comfort setting the car is the type your grandparents would drive.
I have another important buyers advice for you...
which is the AMG package...
with front and rear spoiler and side skirts.
and some nice wheels, which make for a much more sporty car...
and it has the sport button built into it.
An AMG model has not been announced yet, unfortunately.
A car like this needs an AMG version.
The interior is just fine, not very spectaculair.
Neat, businesslike, without too many frills.
Very functional.
And nowadays it's a trend, even with a 4 seater convertible...
to build them with a metal folding rooftop.
But at Mercedes they still decided to attach a soft-top.
It's a compromise, in terms of design.
You'd need one of those stack-things in three parts.
The weight, with all the necessary mechanics...
would be much more if it's made of steel.
So they opted for a fabric rooftop.
It is well isolated.
They even claim that it's the most silent of its kind.
But I think all the other ones have a steel folding roof.
So maybe they're the only one of its kind...
in which case it's not so hard for them to be the most silent of its kind.
The prices of this car...
Uhm... Patrick, please give me the press release.
Let's have a look.
I have Attention Assist and Distronic...
so it's safe for me to have a look at this piece of paper.
The lineup starts with the E200 CGI, that is a direct injection engine...
available from around €52.000.
It's a lot of money, of course, but...
it's much cheaper than the E500, which costs €96.000.
It's pretty well equipped, but with the German option-lists...
it can get pretty pricey.
But, for that money you can drive in luxury.
Here's your paper back.
Let's hit the road.
The question on everyone's mind is...
Is this a car for me?
I'm not sure yet...
Have you ever seen 4 adults in a convertible?
If so then you know what I mean.
If you have poor friends that can't afford one for themselves...
or if you really want to have kids...
then this is the car for you.
I don't have friends. And I certainly don't want to have children.
So I would pick the Roadster.
But that's my personal choice.

Is it on? - Yes
Now turn left.
We're not going left, we're going through the tunnel.
Look, tunnel, V8...
.. here we go!
Please follow the road, for 3 kilometers.
