Race Three - TTA - Racing Elite League 2012 - Gothenburg City Arena

Welcome to the third race weekend of the TTA - Racing Elite League, this time present at the Gothenburg City Arena.
We'll have to name it the small Monaco, as it twisty, in the middle of town and tight, sometimes even too tight for some of the drivers.
But it is an amazing day, sunny, the spectators are arriving with almost full grand stands.
The cars have lined up on the grid and we have got an amazing race day ahead of us.
Hi, my name is Mattias Andersson, join me for one lap around City Arena with my TTA Saab.
In to the first corner that has been re-designed this year, it is a bit sharper and you go down to second gear.
Over to the new corner two, down to first gear, really tight. The exit is really wide and full acceleration in to second gear, hitting the curbs a bit on the entry.
In to the tight section, chicane one, towards the outer guard rail and then the second really tight chicane where you really need to be millimeters from the barriers.
Full acceleration to third, through the fast chicane, only just releasing the gas, out towards the containers and down towards the final corner in fourth gear.
Braking hard, first gear and you really have to get on the gas early, good traction and out onto the long straight again. Up in to sixth gear, hitting just over 210 km/h at the end of the straight.
Lets have a look at the grid, with Alx Danielsson in front in his Citroën. Next to him Thed Björk with number 12.
I don't know, it is a bit surreal in one way, we haven't done as much work as the others. We must have really got it right with the setup changes.
First pole position!
It feels really good, it is nice to be second, I can do anything! Winning is the only thing.
Robert Dahlgren in third and Fredrik Ekblom in fourth.
It was a good qualifying session, you could end up first just as you could be sixth or eighth. The car was good and the lap was good. Then it was just 12 hundredth, I think, to pole.
I had an okay qualifying session, but I wasn't able to set that super time.
The Volvo mafia is up front. Then top Saab in fifth with Daniel Haglöf, top BMW with Fredrik Larsson in sixth
I have got my driving together a bit better, I got a good qualifying session and I got my best grid position ever.
Then it is Robin Rudholm in seventh, Stefan Söderberg in eighth, Mattias Andersson ninth, Richard Göransson tenth, then Tommy Rustad and Linus Ohlsson.
Martin Öhlin is 13th, with Andreas Ebbesson, Viktor Hallrup and Jan Brunstedt behind. That is all 16 cars of the field!
Ladies and gentlemen, the final board is out and the lights are lit. The first, second, third, fourth, fifth light is lit and the field has been released!
A great start by Alx Danielsson and Thed Björk gets a good start as well alongside. Alx tries to close the door but they are side-by-side in to the stadion.
They are still side-by-side, Alx defends, Thed dives on the inside and gives Alx a push. And we have got Thed Björk in the lead after corner two, followed by Alx Danielsson!
Lets have a look at the start. Thed Björk is really strong, Alx sees it and tries to close the door and Thed dares to hold on to the outside, even though Alx goes out and gives him a shove.
Then he makes it stick and Alx just have to realize to forget it, I am not going to lead after corner two. Really tough!
He just had to get through and we have got a Volvo in the lead on the first lap with Alx Danielsson behind and Robert Dahlgren in third, Fredrik Ekblom in fourth and Daniel Haglöf in fifth.
They have got a gap down to Dahlgren in third, Ekblom in fourth, with Haglöf in fifth, Fredrik Larsson in sixth and the second Saab with Robin Rudholm in seventh and Stefan Söderberg in eighth.
Just look at how close they are to the barriers and walls in Gothenburg!
But this tempo could hit back further in to the race.
Yeah, we saw that most recently in Anderstorp where some drivers had problems towards the end of the race. This track, as we heard Ekblom say, requires a more brutal type of driving. It produces a lot of wear, especially on the tyres.
Haglöf is there in fifth, it is nice to see that he is best of the Saab drivers right now.
Yeah, Daniel has had a tough start to the season and it feels like he has found the right way now. The tempo is there and lets just hope that he can keep on to the top in the beginning of the race.
He has got Saab colleague Robin Rudholm right behind him and then we have got a collision between Linus Ohlsson and Tommy Rustad.
They were fighting for eleventh and twelfth. Lets have a look at the replay, he dives to the inside, Linus Ohlsson, and Tommy Rustad closes the gap.
There wasn't room for both of them and that is the way it is here.
Attack from Daniel Haglöf on Fredrik Ekblom and it is the same thing. Ekblom gets turned around!
That one was really tough!
As you can see, Haglöf is on the inside early on and gets the speed down. Then Ekblom turns in and just doesn't give room for Daniel. And you can't be two cars in one place.
Fredrik Ekblom is last. From championship lead to the last car in this race for the Polestar Racing driver right now.
He has got his team mate Thed Björk furthest up in the lead with a hunting Alx Danielsson right behind, as we've got an attack further down. It is Göransson who is on his way up, tries to get past Stefan Söderberg, but has to back down. Göransson is eight, he has gained two positions.
The rear end has already started to become loose for Alx Danielsson, he got a really big slide there and he lost some ground on Thed Björk.
And we've got a car in the wall! Fredrik Larsson, through the second chicane, he gets wide and hits the wall on the back straight.
I got a bit wrong in to the corner and then I had a slide out of the corner instead. It was just on the limit that I could pull through.
Jan Brunstedt hits the wall at the same place. Straight in to the barriers and out of the race.
He hit the wall hard and then someone hits the tyre in the middle of the track, I think it is Göransson. He gets a hard blow to the front of the car. It is Göransson.
There were tyres left on the track which he struck. Those things happen unfortunately.
The safety car is on track.
The lights have been turned off on the safety car. Dahlgren is trying to get past Danielsson, but Danielsson brakes later, almost too late. He gets really wide through turn one, but he manages to get the car back on track and he is still in second.
There is a hungry pack behind them.
Fredrik Ekblom has gained two positions, he is really fast. He knows that he has got to defend his points in the top.
And he dives on the inside in to the right hand corner. Linus tries to close the door but Ekblom is tough down there.
Then Rustad is of course there, eager to pick up a place and he is alongside Linus Ohlsson right now.
It is a drag race down to the first corner between Saab and Volvo. Rustad has got a nose ahead, but Linus stays on the inside. It was nice of Linus to back down at least.
Lets see here if he gets past Söderberg, yes he does. Ekblom does it really nice.
He dives on the inside and goes wide on the exit, there is no chance for Söderberg.
Ekblom is really flying.
Here is the replay, something breaks in the front left or perhaps a puncture for Viktor Hallrup. He just goes straight off.
And we are off again with just five laps left. Thed Björk is the man leading the field in to the first corner and Alx Danielsson is close behind.
And we have got a collision! It is Martin Öhlin.
He gets squeezed, he tries to go on the outside of Ekblom and gets squeezed in to the barriers.
It did look like Ekblom wasn't aware that Öhlin was on the outside.
Ekblom can't get the speed down and rams in to the back of Mattias Andersson, turning him around as well.
Things got a bit too intense for Mr. Ekblom.
And we got a restart with three laps left to go.
There is a restart again and the tempo has been raised. They really have to push as hard as they can.
Alx Danielsson locks up and misses the entry of the corner a bit, but manages to keep second place anyway.
Dahlgren in third, Haglöf still in fourth, Ekblom is fifth and then it is really tight behind them.
Stefan Söderberg is left on the outside and straight away you can see that there is no room, he can't get back in to the line.
Four positions lost just because he got out of line.
If everything goes right for Thed Björk, then we can really crown him the King of Gothenburg. He has got one corner left.
He has done this really well. He has completely dominated the race and he puts on the headlights on his Volvo S60 Polestar. He takes the victory ahead of Alx Danielsson and Robert Dahlgren.
It was an amazing race. I started second and got Alx Danielsson in the start, then I was able to lead the entire race. Just amazing. But it wasn't easy! The hardest part was to keep the focus up, but my mental coach has taught me to get back on the right track. The restart for me left me with cold tyres, which wasn't good, but I knew that I had control. So I just had to remain cool and then it worked, no problem!
I was at first able to match and even challenge Thed, but we have done something with our rear tyres. They are really worn hard. It was nice to have the safety car on track in order to rest the tyres. It was enough for second.
I was really nervous, it is worse than when you are driving on your own. It was amazing, a podium, really good!
I am really happy that Tobias believed in me to take me in for this weekend. It was nice to give them a strong result, the team has really focused hard this weekend and gone the extra mile.
It is great to get some decent results. We have had some trouble during the pre-season and it wasn't until now that we have got me and the car to work properly.
I don't think it was Daniel to hit me that cheap, that early in the race. I have spoken to him and he has apologized. Fair enough.
It was perhaps not the best pass I have made when going past Ekblom, but we made it through and apparently the stewards found it to be all right after all.
Tough but fair racing and the other drivers are defensive, but not too much. Just as it is supposed to be.
We are at a city track, things happen at these type of tracks. It is hard to pass, the guys really have to push hard and then the races turn out to be like this, good races.
It is more or less a world championship. The quality of the drivers is so high, just as the teams. I am really happy to be a part of this.
It is a real success. It is a success for TTA 2012 and it is a success for everyone at the grand stands today.
