This video explains how to change a print cartridge.
Press the power button to turn the power on. Next, open the cartridge access door. The
carriage moves to the right side of the printer. Wait for the carriage to stop moving and then
gently press down on the each cartridge. The cartridge releases, so you can remove it from
the printer. Now, take the new cartridge out of its package.
Using the pink pull tab, carefully remove the protective tape.
Be careful do not to touch the copper-colored electrical contacts or ink nozzles. As this
can cause clogs, ink failure, and poor electrical connections.
Do not use the top of the printer for leverage. This can cause the carriage to lift out of
position and jam the carriage. Use your opposite hand to hold the printer
in place while you place the new cartridge into the slot with the HP logo facing the
ceiling. Gently but firmly push it straight in until
it pops into place. Make sure that each cartridge is in the correct
slot. Tri-color on the left. Black or photo on the right.
If you’re using a cartridge with extra ink capacity marked with an XL. It will stick
out farther than the standard cartridge. When the cartridges are in, close the cartridge
access door… …and follow the instructions on the control
panel to align the cartridges.
An alignment page will print. Finish the alignment process by setting the
printed alignment sheet print side down on the scan bed and pressing the scan button.
Sometimes changing the cartridges can cause a carriage jam. If you have replaced the cartridges
and no alignment page printed, you may have a carriage jam. Check the control panel. If
you have a carriage jam error message you need to clear the carriage jam…
…before aligning the cartridges. And here’s how you can clear it.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Go to the front. Open the cartridge door. And find the carriage.
Clear any paper or obstructions from the carriage path. If there is nothing in the way, push
it until it moves. Use your hands, not any tools; it may require
a substantial force to make it move. When it comes free you will hear a click.
…and the carriage will freely move from side to side
Close the cartridge door… .
Plug the power cord back into the printer. And turn the printer back on.
An alignment page will print.
Finish the alignment process by setting the printed alignment sheet print side down on
the scan bed and pressing the scan button.
Your printer should be ready to use.
