Welcome back! This is Joe Wiles with the Rock 'N Roll Conservatory and in
this video tutorial we're going to talk about Aerosmith's Dream On. This was their first
single off their first record it was 1973's Aerosmith. \
\ In this video tutorial we're going to talk
about the introduction which is also the verse. We're going to talk about a transition riff
that kind of takes us from the verse into the chorus and we're talk about the chorus
riff. Let's get started.\ \
\
\b Intro pt 1 \b0 \
\ \
The introduction to Dream On,
it starts with your ring finger on the 5th fret of the G. We're going to kind of anchor
that there for a while. Let's put our pinky on the 6th fret of the B and our middle finger
on the 4th fret of the high E. We're going to hit the B and the E together, then answer
with a G. You can do this with a pick or with your fingers. I'm going to use a pick. \
\ The next one, we're going to \'96 keeping
our ring finger there on the fifth fret of the G, move our middle finger to the 4th fret
of the B and our index finger to the 3rd fret of the high E. \
\ Now these two fingers switch places. Move
your index finger to 3rd fret of the B and your middle finger to the 4th fret of the
high E. \ \
And then slide those two fingers down. Your index finger should be on the 2nd fret of
the G \'96 excuse me, of the B, and your middle finger should be on the 3rd fret of the high
E, keeping your middle finger there on 5th fret of the G. \
\ Here are those riffs again.\
\ The second set of them, instead of moving
down, it actually moves up. We're going to start with the same riff.\
\ Then we're going to reposition all our fingers.
Move our index finger to\ where our ring finger was on the 5th fret
of the G. We're going to put our middle finger on the 6th fret of the high E, and the pinky
on the 8th fret of the B. \ \
Then we're going to move our ring finger up to the 8th fret of the high E and our pinky
to the 9th fret of the B. \ \
All together, the first eight bars sound like this.\
\ Now the next set of that, we're going to repeat
the first set of four bars over again.\ \
Now the last time we go through the riff before it gets into the verse, we're going to start
with the same chord.\ \
But then we're going to put our pinky on the 6th fret of the high E, answer the same way. Then
we're going to stretch out to the 8th fret of the high E.\
\ Then we're going to hit the 6 and 6 together,
then the 6 and 4, back to the 6, 6. Then we're going to slide up to the 8 and 9. Then we're
going to slide from the 8, 8 down to the 6, 6. \
\ Then we're on this G, we're going to go 6-5-6-5-6-5-6-5.\
Now the last set of riffs sound like this. So the whole introduction sounds like this.
Let's try that whole thing to tempo. Here we go. One, two, three, four. \

\b Intro pt 2 \b0 \
\ \
\pard\pardeftab720\ri720\sa200\ql\qnatural \cf0 Alright, where we left off on the introduction
we were just about to do the transition riff that goes into the verse. It\'92s a little
complicated so I wanted to give it it\'92s own section.\
It starts on the 6th fret of the G, we\'92re going to slide or pull off to the 5th fret,
pull off to the 3rd fret and then hammer back on to the 5th fret, to the 6th fret.\
Then we\'92re going to come up to the 5th fret of the B, to the 6th fret to the 8th,
it sounds like this.\ So again on the G, it\'92s 6-5-3-5-7-6 and
on the B, 5-6-8. Then we\'92ll go 6-8-9 on the B. Then 8-9-11, then we\'92re going to
start on the 9th fret hammer on the 11 and pull off.\
Then 8-9-8, then 6-8-6, then 4-6-4, come down to the 2, slide down to the 1 and then slide
all the way up to the 13th fret.\ Slowly the first bar sounds like this. The
second bar sounds like this. Then we\'92ll continue the next three hammer on pull offs.
All together it sounds like this. \ Let\'92s play that to tempo, now the first
we go through this riff, we\'92re going to do that half time about half speed then we\'92ll
go through it at full speed OK. Here\'92s the half time version, one two, three, four.
Alright, here\'92s the full time version, one, two, three, four.\
\
\b Chorus\ \pard\pardeftab720\ri720\ql\qnatural
\cf0 \ \pard\tx713\tx1443\pardeftab720\ri720
\b0 \cf0 Now the chorus to \'93Dream On\'94 is a bunch of power chords. It's not too tricky.
We're going to start on the eighth fret of the A string, and the tenth frets of the D
and G strings. This is an F-5 power chord. \
\ Then all we're going to do is slide it down
two frets, one, two, to D sharp 5 power chord. Slide it down two more, one, two, to a C sharp
5 power chord. And I believe that's just about all the chords we'll use. It sounds like this
slowly. \ \pard\tx738\tx1443\pardeftab720\ri720
\cf0 \ And that's where it ends. And this is what
that power chord sequence sounds like to speed, one, two, three, four.\
