My name is Melissa Burton.
I double major in psychology and information technology.
I participated at the Imagine RIT Innovation Festival last May
And I did the Mural Mural on the Wall for the Psychology Club.
I did it to raise awareness about the club.
A lot of people don’t know much about the actual clubs unless they go to the web site.
This is a great way to showcase that this club exists and what we are kind of about.
It was basically a whole bunch of people from our club getting together.
And painting this together.
We had to plan everything out. Draw it out at first.
And paint over it. It was just a lot of fun.
We got to meet with a lot of clubs.
So we got to meet new people. And we got to learn more about other people’s clubs.
We do fundraisers about every quarter that raise awareness about certain mental disorders
Such as autism, or Asperger’s, or schizophrenia.
We also host lecture series.
A bunch of people in psychology related fields come and speak
To a variety of guests from RIT and even high school students.
We also keep up to date with current research
Through article readings and through even our own research.
I look forward to participating in the Imagine RIT Festival next year
So that I can share some of my research that I have been doing over the last two years.
That research involves childhood maltreatment, bipolar disorder, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder.
