Number 3 - The Underarm Turn.
Proper name for the step is called the change of place.
And there’s 2 turns – change of place from right to left
and change of place from left to right. But to keep it simple,
I’m just gonna call it the Lady’s Underarm Turn.
Yeah. So,
we have counting Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick,
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick, Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick,
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. Once again,
the basic rhythm of 2 slows, 2 quicks does not change,
stays the same, consistent,
all the way through. The man is doing the basic step from beginning
to end. What about the lady?
Well, obviously the lady is going to turn underarm,
but more importantly, I want to show you how Wendy goes from
A to B, B to A.
What is that? I’m going to do it facing this way.
Wendy is going to go from A to B, B back to A.
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick, Underarm Turn A to B,
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. You notice she is now over here.
She didn’t stay here and the man is facing her.
Now, for the 2nd half of the turn,
she goes from B back to A and I’m going to do
my basic step to face her all the time. Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick.
And basic Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. I’ll do it facing this angle,
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. A to B for lady.
The signal very simple – Hand goes up.
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. Hand goes up;
the lady turns away from the man, goes from B back to A.
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. Now here’s another important note –
When we finish the turns, we are not together.
We want to make sure we are not together. We don’t want to be like this.
And you may say, “Why not?” Because for 2 reasons,
if you turn under and aim to get back together, it’s awkward.
You might have elbow in the face, all kinds of things.
Second reason, when you come back,
you now have the opportunely to do other steps. If you come back together,
you now restricted to just dancing basic step. And you know what I mean in the next step
when we combine next step. For now,
trust me, don’t come together.
Slow, Slow, A to B,
B to A staying apart, then come back together using the basic.
Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick. So there you have the lady’s underarm turn.
We now demonstrate that with the music several times.
