Hi, I’m Dr. Shantanu Agrawal
Medical Director for the Center for Program Integrity,
here at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
If you've got a minute, I've got some good news about
one of the ways Medicare is helping to keep you healthy.
We've all heard the adage "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
but have you stopped to think about how you can take advantage of that advice?
Prevention of infectious diseases such as influenza is an important
part of your Medicare coverage because a strong immune system
is vital to good health down the road.
Medicare preventive benefits include 3 shots.
Flu shots, covered once a season in the fall or winter,
Hepatitis B Shots, covered for people at high or medium risk,
and a Pneumococcal shot, usually needed only once in a lifetime.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month
and accessing critical immunizations has never been easier.
You pay nothing if your doctor or supplier accepts Medicare.
For more information on preventive benefits, including immunization,
