Australian employers seeking to fill vacancies in the health and engineering professions
and automotive, construction, electrical and mechanical trades, are being encouraged to
attend the Skills Australia Needs Expo.
Hosted by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, the London expo runs for two
days, September 11 and 12.
Skilled workers from the United Kingdom feature highly in Australia's skilled migration
program with occupations in demand.
In the 2008-09 program year, UK migrants made up 61 per cent of construction workers; 31
per cent of nurses; 20 per cent of automotive, electrical and electronics tradespersons;
and nearly 20 per cent of medical practitioners.
Visitors to the Skills Australia Needs Expo who are interested in employment and
sponsorship opportunities in Australia will be pre-screened to ensure they have suitable
qualifications and experience.
