HealthCare.gov Web Portal: An Introduction by Secretary Sebelius

Hi, I’m Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
Since Congress passed and President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, there’s
been a lot of news about how this new law is going to help Americans take control over
their own health care.
But there hasn’t been one place you can go to find out exactly how it will help your
needs and your family…that is, until now.
Today, if you click on www.HealthCare.gov, you’ll find a new website where you can
do everything from reading up on the law to finding the health insurance policy that meets
you and your family’s needs.
www.HealthCare.gov can be your one stop shop for up-to-date information on the new health
reform law. Join me as we take a quick look.
Let’s start on the homepage
Here, you’ll find a range of information and you can navigate to different parts of
the website – from an “understanding the law” section to a feature that explains
more about the new pre-existing insurance plans that you might be eligible for.
Also from the homepage, you can explore the coverage options that are available to you
– including private insurance plans, public programs and community services.
We have designed the site to make it easy for you and your family to search for insurance
options that meet your personal needs.
Whether you are a healthy individual, a person with a disability, a senior, a young adult,
– we have information for you.
There are many options.
To discover these options, start by clicking on the blue tab on the top left-side of the
webpage called “Find Insurance Options.”
Then you select your state, followed by the category that best describes you.
From there, continue to answer each question that best fits your own personal situation.
You’ll then be taken to a page that gives you coverage options based on your choices.
Simply select the option you would like to explore and you will be taken to a page with
specific insurance plans that are available to you.
Our health coverage finder makes it easy to find out which insurance options are available
to you.
