I present to you one of the unsung heroes,
one of the little folks that do their jobs without any fuss -
here's boron.
A little hush, please, ladies and gentlemen.
I think our guest is shy.
Come on, boron.
Without you the plants would die.
A rose bush doesn't need much, probably less than half a gramme,
but if it's to grow it needs you.
The funny thing is that no-one knows exactly what's going on
between boron and the plant
but we know for sure that plants would be lost without it.
And boron's no softie.
Going to work in industry, assisting with many chemical processes
and bonding with nitrogen so well
that together they become almost as hard as diamond.
