First Certificate Speaking Part 1

Hi, this is Bob Wilson from, where people learn English for free.
And this video lesson is about the First Certificate speaking part one.
In Paper 5 speaking of the First Certificate examination,
you and another candidate will be asked three or four personal questions.
In total, part one takes about three minutes.
Here is a list of the typical topics you could be asked about.
Then you'll hear Bob answer some typical questions.
How long have you been learning English?
I've been learning English for more than forty years.
How useful do you think English is?
I think English is useful as an international language, I mean as a way for people from
different cultures to communicate.
Describe your relationship with your family?
I get on very well with my mother, my brother and my sister. Unfortunately, we don't see
each other very often.
Do you have much contact with your cousins?
Not really. They live in Australia.
What do you most enjoy doing with your family?
I enjoy family meals. My Mum is a great cook. I also love visiting my brother and his family
in Thailand.
Where did you go for your last holidays?
I went to Vanuatu and New Zealand. I loved New Zealand. It's really advanced ecologically.
What do you dislike doing when you are on holiday?
Well, I get bored very quickly lying on the beach.
Where do you plan to go for your next holiday?
I'd love to visit New York and also the state of Oregon.
How often do you go to the cinema?
I normally go to the cinema once a fortnight.
What was the last film you saw?
The last film I saw was Agora. I really recommend it.
Describe the area where you live.
I live in the city centre. There are a lot of restaurants in my street and it's quite
noisy really.
What do you like and dislike about where you live?
Well, my street is quite narrow so there isn't much traffic which is great for pedestrians.
The only problem is that it's quite noisy at night.
Would you like to live in another place?
I would like to live somewhere where it rains more often, maybe Galicia.
Do you play any sports?
I do exercise on an exercise bike.
What sports do you like watching on tv?
I love watching international football matches.
Which sports do you find boring?
Baseball but that's because I don't know the rules.
How did you get here today?
I came by bus.
Which type of public transport do you use most often?
The underground and also the buses.
Which is your favourite way to travel?
I love travelling by train. I enjoy watching the scenery and also going for a drink in
the buffet car.
