We've already driven the Mercedes CL a couple of times.
But it's had a big facelift.
Different headlights.
Sharper edged hood.
Different tail lights.
And for important cars like this one we're happy to...
...take some more time to really put it through its paces.
We're driving the CL 63 AMG today.
Which has a 5.5 liter big V8 engine, by the way.
That's quite confusing. There used to be a 55 AMG...
...with a 5.5 liter V8.
Then the 63 AMG came along, with a 6.2 liter V8.
That's a difference of 0.1.
Now there's a new 63 AMG with a 5.5 liter V8.
Weird guys, those Germans. I don't really get them.
That said, the engine itself is truly a gem.
544 hp and 800 Nm of torque.
And if you think that's not enough, there's also an AMG Performance package.
That adds 27 hp and 100 Nm.
That makes 900 Nm, amazing.
And even though it weighs a staggering 2.135 kg (4.706 lb.)...
...it's ridiculously fast.
0-62 in 4.6 seconds. But that's not the complete story...
...'cause it just keeps on going. Always.
One little drawback; when it rains...
...or when the tarmac is slick...
...you have a big problem 'cause you can't put the power down.
We've chosen the engine that's had the biggest decrease in fuel consumption.
All engines have become more economical but the 63 AMG is radically different.
We like supporting the environment of course.
It just pushes the other away.
Do you know what the good thing is?
BMW makes a twin-turbo V8 and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
And this one sounds like, let's say, a Messerschmitt fighter jet.
It's save to say that it sounds really great!
This actually is an S-Class coupe.
And why would you buy a car with only two doors?
Even though they're really big and very heavy.
Well, ask someone who lives in a castle.
Why does his castle have really big doors?
Just because it looks good.
You can also just cruise in it.
Then you sit like this...
...you turn on the massage seat...
...play some music, turn the sat nav on...
...and turn your phone off. You can of course pick it up with the sat nav...
...but I just don't want to make phone calls.
It starts at about 160 grand...
...for the CL 500. You can also get that one with 4wd.
Nice for when you go skiing in the winter.
This CL 63 costs about 230 grand.
And if you want a 12-cylinder turbo with an AMG-badge...
...bring at least 300 grand.
That's about the price of a house.
But when you sit down in the living room look for the massage button...
...the cooling button or the heating button...
...of the couch itself that is.
Or the IWC clock in the center console.
You don't have all those things, right?
So the price isn't all that crazy.
