Today in 1972, Eugene Cernan became the last man to walk on the surface of the moon as
part of the Apollo 17mission. The Apollo 17 mission was nothing short of
incredible. Aside from the fact they discovered the  oldest lunar rock  -believed to be
4.5 billion years old which is almost as old as we believe the solar system to be  -  Apollo
17  has the record for longest manned lunar landing flight; the longest total lunar surface
extravehicular activities, and the longest time in lunar orbit.
