Transcript:
In Haiti, the United Nations will create a task force
to study the findings made by an Independent Panel of Experts
on the causes of the country's devastating cholera outbreak.
The epidemic has claimed nearly 5000 lives so far
and infected as many as 24,000.
The panel has already put forward recommendations designed
to help the UN and the Haitian Government
to contain the spread of the disease.
Though cholera cases have decreased
since the initial outbreak last year,
fears remain that the upcoming
rainy season in the country
could trigger a fresh outbreak of infection.
In a statement, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
once again pledged the UN’s continuing commitment
to assisting the Government and people of Haiti.
