Hey guys! My name is J and I'm talking to you on behalf of Expert Village. On this clip,
I'm going to talk to you about the type of potato I'm using for this. The type of potato
I'm using is a red potato. As you can see here, they're nice and red in color. They're
a nice good size. They're not too big. The good thing about red potatoes and the reason
why people use red potatoes is because the big potatoes, all the Idaho potatoes, they've
got so much starch in the them. It makes your mashed potatoes a lot less creamy and they
make them a lot more thicker. A lot of people don't like that when it comes to mashed potatoes.
These have a lot less starch than all of the other potatoes. That's why people, especially
on the food network and professional chefs, use red potato or new potatoes because they
have less starch and they make better mashed potatoes. That's it. It's just simple as that.
That's the reason why I'm using these beautiful red potatoes. If you want to use Idaho or
whatever it is you want to use, go ahead and be my guest. This is my little recipe here.
You can alter it however you like. I'm going to move onto the next clip and you'll see
how it's done. Thanks.
