The fake food industry got started in Japan at the beginning of the Showa Period (late
1920s). I'm not really sure who started the fake food industry in Japan. But the individual
who made the fake food industry the thriving industry that it has come to be today is none
other than Takizo Iwasaki, who is the founder of the largest fake food manufacturer in Japan.
What Mr. Iwasaki did differently 70 years ago to popularize the industry was to make
the fake food products available for rent rather than to sell them outright to department
stores and restaurants. In addition, you may be surprised to know that the fake food industry
originated right here in Osaka, which is also where Mr. Iwasaki founded his company.
