About Ghostbot - Written by a Kid ep. 8 Behind-the-Scenes

This is a really weird story.
But I knew I wanted to be an animator when I told my mom,
hey, we're going to go watch Cyborg in the movie theater.
And she was like, what?
No way.
She's like, you're going to go watch The Little Mermaid
because it's a Disney movie.
And I said, no, I don't want to watch
that, it's a kids movie.
But she forced us to go.
And I was just blown away by that movie.
In the middle of the movie I realized, wait, somebody's
drawing this.
And I'm actually engaging with the character, and falling in
love with the character, and following the story.
And I thought I could have just watched Cyborg that day
and been an accountant or something.
But yeah, that was the moment that I knew I
wanted to do animation.
Ghostbots started in 2004.
It was myself, Alan Lau, and Brad Rau.
We realized we really liked working with each other, which
you don't often find.
So the three of us, for whatever crazy reason, decided
to start our own company.
We thought, hey, let's give it a shot.
We gravitate towards specific genres for sure.
We love sci-fi.
We love fantasy.
We love just stories that you really invest in the
characters, that can be told over a long period of time.
Not just kind of a one shot, ha ha that was really funny,
and then you move on to the next thing.
At the heart of it, and kind of what drives us now to this
day, is we want to get out there and be storytellers.
We don't want to just do animation and be a hired gun
to help other people look good.
We really feel like we have stories to tell.
