A new entrance way was the main attraction
at the opening of Aotea Square this morning.
Te Karere was there at dawn to honour the occasion.
The light will reveal the artwork's true beauty.
Many gathered to celebrate this opening.
The Waharoa is at the centre of the square,
and it represents both Maori and Pakeha.
It cost $80 million to refurbish Aotea Square,
but the council is pleased
as initial predictions put the cost of refurbishment
at more than $120 million.
Let the artist himself speak of his work.
If I need to explain what it means, I have failed.
Nothing more needs to be said.
Heta Gardiner, Te Karere.
