YouTube Trends: A Quick Overview

Uploaded by Trends on 12.12.2010

Welcome to YouTube Trends, a destination for daily insight into what's happening on the
world's largest video site.
YouTube Trends is a one-stop shop to discover what's trending on YouTube now.
At the top, you'll see a collection of videos called "4 at 4". Twice a day, at 4 am and
4 pm Eastern time, four new buzzworthy videos will be featured here. These videos are drawn
from algorithmically-generated feeds of trending videos and top video curation sites around
the web.
Right below, you'll find a real-time list of "Trending Topics" on YouTube. These topics
represent what people are uploading videos about, what they're talking about, and what
they're sharing with friends.
Below that, you'll see a feed of "Trending Videos". These are videos that have been embedded
by tastemakers around the web and are on their way to going viral.
To the left, you'll see the main portion of the site: the blog. Here, we'll provide more
in-depth and contextual explorations of videos, trends, and cultural phenomena as seen through
the lens of YouTube and leveraging YouTube's own internal data.
Trends will also have billboard-style charts, data visualizations, and features highlighting
what the YouTube ecosystem can tell us about major events as they unfold.
If you visit the Trends Dashboard, by clicking on the button in the top-right-hand corner
of the site, you can drill down into a specific geographic area or demographic group
you can also filter videos by "most shared" or "most viewed"
If you want to compare two or three different slices of data, you can view the sets side
by and side to figure out what's popular, where, and with whom.
We see YouTube as a way to not just be entertained and informed, but also as place that can help
us understand more about the world we live in and the people we share it with. And that's
what YouTube Trends is all about.
