Hey, I'm Keri Glassman here with some quick and simple tips to help you feel just a little
bit better. Today is the second in my series of four brain foods that will help keep your
mind sharp. The saying goes “You are what you eat,” and never is that more true than
when it concerns your mental well being. You’ve probably heard by now that fish is an excellent
source of omega 3 fatty acids, but did you know that omega 3s are great for your brain!
Studies suggest that higher concentrations of omegas in your brain may improve cognition,
so you need to make sure you are getting your omega 3’s daily. The American Heart Association
suggests 1 gram per day—and as a reference, one 3 ounce serving of salmon offers 1.9 grams.
And if you don’t feel like eating fish constantly, good news. You can add omega 3s to your diet
without making a trip to the seafood aisle. Walnuts are an excellent source, as are flax
seeds and chia seeds; grass-fed beef and omega 3 fortified eggs are sources as well. So remember:
Omega 3 fatty acids are good for your brain, and you can find them in sources other than
fish. Ensuring you get more of this amazing nutrient will definitely help you feel a little
bit better.
