To begin, go to the HP support website to download the Hardware Diagnostic Utility.
On your computer, go to the Desktop. If you are at the Start screen, click the bottom
left corner of your screen.
Open the web browser of your choice.
Type www.hp.com/go/tools into the browser's address bar and then press Enter on your keyboard.
Find the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility. Click the Download Utility link.
Click Download.
A prompt might open asking what you want to do with the file. Click Save.
With the Hardware Diagnostic Utility successfully downloaded, you can use it to look for potential
issues.
To find the file you just downloaded, click the Open Folder button or navigate to the
folder where you downloaded the file.
Find the installation file in the folder. The file name is HPHDU.exe.
Double-click the file to run the Hardware Diagnostic Utility.
If prompted, click Yes to allow the program to run.
The program will extract and then automatically open.
After the program opens you will have to choose which HP printer you would like to troubleshoot.
If you have more than one HP printer installed, select your desired printer and then click
Diagnose.
The tool will then start checking your printer to make sure that it is functioning correctly.
At this point, the steps will be different depending on your printer and the issues found.
Because there are different ways this could look, the remaining steps are not shown in
this video. Follow the on-screen instructions and you will be guided through the diagnosis.
