THE CITY OPENS PLAINE DE PLAINPALAIS SKATE PARK, GENEVA 2012
A skate park is a condensation of structures used in urban sports,
such as skateboarding, roller-skating and BMX,
where we can find three major categories of structures:
urban elements, such as ledges, walls or rails,
bowls, which are a reinterpretation of an empty swimming pool,
and slanted plane structures, also called a ditch,
similar to retention reservoirs, which are also used by skaters.
People know little about these sports and they tend to forejudge,
and I believe that this will enhance the visibility of such sports.
The skate park has several strengths.
The first one is its location at the very heart of the city,
and this is a good thing because it's an urban development project,
its size, because it is a convenient park in terms of surface,
and its multi-purpose use in three sports,
including the interactions between bowl, street parts
and the ditch behind us.
They have to protect themselves, because falls are quite frequent.
They learn as they fall,
and those who reach this level become the best.
The city encourages them to wear protection,
such as elbow pads, knee pads, and even wrist guards.
They thought of everybody, not just the beginners.
Everybody can make progress, it's really cool.
The skate park is better now.
