Yeah
John E. Esslemont
We coming at you from Guelph it's Blair and Nadim
Were gonna tell you about a guy named: John E. Esslemont
Oh please let me set the stage
Esslemont was a scholar with the wisdom of a sage
Born in Scotland 1874
He was a visionary doctor, with plans in store
Primed the pump for universal healthcare
Had seven languages under his belt, there
Wrote some papers on pharmacology
And pioneered treatments for T.B.
He heard about this religion from a co-worker's wife
And became a Baha'í for the rest of his life
We talking 'bout John Esslemont
To be a doctor, is what he did want
But he got sick while in college
Causing him to give up his career in medical knowledge
He was appointed as one of the Hands of The Cause
To make sure these Baha'ís are following the laws
John to the E. to the Esslemont
A doctor, a linguist, a Hand of the Cause
John to the E. to the Esslemont
Say it with me now
John to the E. to the Esslemont
A doctor, a linguist, a Hand of the Cause
John to the E. to the Esslemont
Take it back 'round
Now let me tell you about his travels
As I say this, many stories were unraveled
He got married in Oz in Wollongong
But that marriage only lasted a year long
As winter came round he decided to head southbound
He got to Africa and went to Kroonstad
After that two published papers is what he had
Then he traveled to Paris to Rome to Naples and,
Across the sand, to the Holy Land
To meet Abdu'l-Bahá first hand
Yeah, go Blair
We alluded to it earlier, but this guy was smart
Taking some language and turn it into art
He wrote some books and gave some talks
About the Faith and it's building blocks
He had a station of iteration
No limitation to translation
His orations drew ovations
Feeding spiritual starvation
I'll tell you one more thing I bet you didn't know
That he translated the Hidden Words
Into Esperanto
Uh
Esslemont now
Mmm
Yeah
Esslemont now
Esslemont the Hand of The Cause
Disciple of Abdu'l-Bahá
Sing with me, as we drop this beat
You know this song's gonna move your feet
John to the E. to the Esslemont
A doctor, a linguist, a Hand of the Cause
John to the E. to the Esslemont
Say it with me now
John to the E. to the Esslemont
A doctor, a linguist, a Hand of the Cause
John to the E. to the Esslemont
Take it back 'round
Once again were coming at you from the city of Guelph
Representing
We got John E. Esslemont
Hand of the Cause
He wrote a book called Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era
Which is one of those encyclopedias of Baha'í knowledge
This guy was a legend
Remeber that name
What is it?
John to the E. to the Esslemont
A doctor, a linguist, a Hand of the Cause
John to the E. to the Esslemont
Say it with me now
John to the E. to the Esslemont
A doctor, a linguist, a Hand of the Cause
John to the E. to the Esslemont
Take it back 'round
'round, 'round, 'round
