Transcript:
I’m here at the SUNY Regional Campus Showcase at SUNYIT in Marcy, New York,
right between the Rome and Utica campuses of Mohawk Valley Community College.
MVCC is part of the State University of New York system,
which is committed to providing everyone with the opportunity of a college
education.
SUNY provides sixty-four unique campus learning environments for every type of
student and every stage of life,
encompassing a variety of disciplines and perspectives.
The showcase is designed to convey the power of SUNY and its incredible impact
on the Mohawk Valley region.
This region holds six SUNY institutions, and about nineteen percent of the
region's population is
connected to SUNY as a student, employee, or alumnus.
MVCC alone accounts for twenty thousand of all seventy-five thousand
SUNY alumni living here in the Mohawk Valley region.
Whether training unemployed individuals for new careers or
preparing an honor student for transfer to a four year school,
MVCC strives to improve the quality of life
and economic opportunity right here in the Mohawk Valley.
At this year's showcase, MVCC is spotlighting programs that make our
college unique.
Our athletics program is one of the most extensive and successful two-year
intercollegiate programs in the country.
Our student athletes not only excel on the field, but in the classroom as well.
The Hawks compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association, Region III,
and Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference.
MVCC’s hospitality management programs
offer more than just great training for a career.
They teach the importance of service with hands-on practical experience,
sending graduates out into the field with real credentials.
As the health care field continues to create new opportunities
MVCC is staying ahead of the curve,
offering degree and certificate programs and the latest technology and opportunities
for learning.
MVCC currently offers degrees in nursing, respiratory care, medical
assisting, radiologic technology, and EMS/Paramedics,
and certificates in allied health care,
medical assistant, and surgical technology.
MVCC’s Cultural Series brings performers and films from around the
world to the MVCC community.
Many events are part of the Diversity and Global View initiative,
which aims to raise awareness of our increasingly diverse society.
MVCC’s Airframe and Powerplant program is the only community college-based
aviation maintenance program in New York State
and one of the few one-year programs in the country.
The training is FAA-approved and prepares students for the exams
required
for the Airframe and Powerplant certificate.
As one of thirty community colleges in the State University system,
MVCC is helping to fulfill SUNY’s mission of opportunity and access
to education for all.
We're proud to be part of the SUNY family and all that it has to offer the
students of today and tomorrow.
