We are here in the second video with the review of Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I'll repeat some stuff from the first video.
I'll do a specification summary.
It's the first Android smarthphone with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 ,
it has touchscreen 4.65 inches with resolution 1280x720p, dual-core cpu clocked at 1.2GHz
1 GB RAM, front-face camera
rear camera at 5MP capable of FULL HD video recording 1920x1080
LED Flash also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,GPS, NFC Near Field Communications
battery at 1750 MAh and thats all.
Let's go inside and get to know the ICS,
as you can see it doens't have there are no buttons,
the buttons you see are inside the screen
to be specific these are screen buttons, ie if i close the phone they will dissapear.
First of all you saw how it close.
Here is the lock screen, to the right it unlocks and to the left goes to the camera.
We will demonstrate them after a while.
I go back, we can see the absence of hard keys or capacitive keys
the buttons you see here, are icons in the screen
which means that the usable space of the 4.65 inch screen is lower
and that will apply in every device that will have ICS
they will lose their usable space.
You can see that in comparison with the 4.3 inch screen of Optimus 3D
if I go the screens to the edge
where the info and the status bar starts
you can see that usable space is almost the same between the two phones.
The left phone has 4.65 inch screen the right 4.3 inch
and yet you can see that if I compare the screens from where they starts to show info
you can see that the screen's
usable space is almost the same.
This is something to chew on, because we all want ICS in our phones
but if the phone has 4 inch screen or lower size then you will have very little usable space.
Here we are, and let's go for a walk in the mobile,
these are the home screens,
I'll zoom in a little with the camera
we can see that if we go to the edge of the last home screen we will be stopped
and we will notice this effect showing the home screen as a tab and that here is the end
and passing through the other home screens we reach the end.
Pressing for sometime will not give us the option to put widget in the home screen only live wallpapers,
and i'll so you later how, the UI is similar to Honeycomb tablets
we can see here the live wallpapers
it has some new, bubbles, phase beam, spectrum, it has some weird live wallpapers.
I think that you will be able to find them later after the public release of the phone
and install them in your Android phones.
Thats the way we set a live wallpaper.
If we want to add a widget we go the menu and we select the widget tab
where we can see the available widgets
and searching through the screens we find the widget we want.
For example i will choose the Analog Clock, we press for some time
the available home screens appear
and we put the widget wherever we want unless there is no space for it.
Now, if we want to remove a widget,
forget the recycle bin in the bottom, the recycle bin moved at the top its a bit confusing
that how widgets are being removed.
That the way widgets can be rearranged.
Basically there are 4 positions vertical and 4 positions horizontally
where the widgets can be placed
you can see the crosses in the screen
which bounding the widgets placement.
[counting the possible places]
I'll just remove this widget.
Let's go into the menu again
I go inside in the menu we are here in the widget tab i will install another widget
for example this small widget
let's put it here
it will let you to put a contact shortcut
and as you can see it can only take specific positions.
There is nice feature for some widgets
a small number of them can be resized
the one I chose is not the best option to do this.
Let's go again to the widget tab,
for example this widget,
if we place it here and press for some seconds it will let us change it's size
that way we can put and tidy our home screen in a more efficient way
and organize them better.
I quit the part of widgets, I go back.
That's all about widgets in the home screens.
Now I will show you the way that we can rearrange the permanent shorcuts in the bottom of the screen
with a simple way I drag it in the home screen and I can change their position too
or I can go and drag a shortcut and add it to the permanent shortcuts
and If I want to listen to my music its in the same place in every home screen.
Lets go and check out the UI in the telephone dialer
The call log lies in the second tab
it will show the call history if there is none
and in the third tab holds the Contacts
we can see here Aris, to whom i can text
please note that the mobile doesn't have the option for Greek menu/keyboard
and we don't know if it will get any when it is publicly released.
Now we check the keyboard in portrait/landscape mode
in the 4.65 inch screen, its very nice.
I press the home button.
This one is the multitask button and show us the apps that are still running
it's very easy, we press the button and we can see which applications are running[frozen]
we can see the camera app, that i was running before
I go back again, I let the camera app running
I press the multitask button to see the apps, this is the multitask function of this mobile.
This is a game I was playing before
I go back again,
these 3 buttons are always in the same potision wherever we are
Back, Home , Mulitask button
showing us the running apps.
I go back, we saw the widgets/shortcuts function
here lies a folder
no matter how many time I spend I didn't understand how I could create a new folder
although I found how I can rename it, as you can see you can change it's name,
for example let's rename it to Kostas
but really I couldn't found how to create a folder for as long as I have the phone for a review
no matter what I tried I couldn't create a folder or two.
Logical, there is a way to create one,
and as we can see inside the folder we can interact with the items remove them,
rearrange them or even add in the folder again
widgets, [mistake] no widgets but app shortcuts
directly inside the folder.
Let's see how the status bar looks like
you can see it
it doesn't containt the power control widget although it still exists as standalone widget
if we want to use it, it still exists as a widget,
which can give us direct control of essential settings
such as Wi-Fi on/off switch , Bluetooth etc.,
although there is a shortcut in the status bar which redirect us in the settings
so whenever we want to go to the settings
we can go either through the menu and click the settings shortcut
which I will demonstrate to you later
or from the shortcut in the status bar.
Here you can see the circle icon with the little squares which redirect us to the menu
as you can see the apps are sorted by app
watch out the effect of the UI
this effect is something like turning a "page" in the screen
after that there is an effect when we reach the end where tile stops and turns a little to the side
and we see again this nice effect.
Also you could notice that apps and widgets are on the same panel
we can go either directly by clicking the shortcut above
or if there is none panel with apps left it automatically goes to the widgets panels
where the available widgets for our home-screens lies.
A very nice one is the settings widget, which let us choose
a direct setting eg. for sound
and make a shortcut for it our home screen and change the preferences
in order to make our mobile operate better
ie this widgets will let us to make any shortcut for settings in our home screen.
I go back
again in widgets and see the available ones at this time being
we can see Youtube, PhotoGallery
next to the widget there is a number which indicates the space that it will occupy in the home screen,
the home screens can hold 4x4 positions as i said before
eg the power control widget will ocupy 4 x 1
it's how we saw them in Honeycomb tablet
these are the widgets.
If we want direct access to Android Market
we can see there is always top and right the Market icon
and after clicking it we can browse the Market and download everything we want
so always the Market icon lies up there,
in order to download any app we want.
Again inside the menu let's open the browser
or let's better finish this video here
in which we browse the ICS UI
and at last let's go to the third and last video
in which we will review what Galaxy Nexus is capable of with the ICS.
Bye,bye!
