(Audience applause)
Idina: Oh my goodness! Hello, it's so nice to be here!
Good evening, everyone!
It's beautiful out there.
How are you?
(Audience cheers)
It cooled off for us a little bit...right? It's beautiful up here.
Oh my goodness, I'm so... so happy to be here.
It's been a little while since I've been on the stage.
I'm glad to uh, be in Jacksonville to... get back up here.
(Audience cheers)
*sigh* And to have this unbelievable orchestra behind me is very exciting.
And we have our guest conductor, Matt Kraemer, who's amazing.
*sigh*
*giggles* That was a big one to start with!
There's some really high notes in that one.
Um...I thought, I thought 'Do I want to start with "The Life of the Party"?
Because...I don't want them to think that I think I'm the life of the party.'
Because I don't!
I don't! And actually that song...for lots of you probably don't know,
It's from this little Off-Broadway show called "The Wild Party".
(Audience cheers)
Yeah, we got creamed with the reviews... and we didn't go anywhere...that one...
But um... *giggles*
It's uh, it's actually about a woman who's uh, during the prohibition
Who's uh...well, an alcoholic. Hard to do that in a prohibition!
And um...she straps, like, her alcohol flasks to her thighs and she...
She hides all her stuff and she's kind of an addict and...
And uh...so she wishes she was the life of the party, and um...
Well anyway...so I thought well,
Parties, how do I feel about parties?
I'm not really a party kind of girl.
I'm kind of a couch potato if you ask me.
I am. I kind of like to stay home and snuggle up in my pjs and everything, but
But there was a good party in the, uh...
Sixth grade, seventh grade with Danny Zelmer where I played, uh...
Seven Minutes in Heaven and french-kissed for the first time!
(Audience cheers)
That was a fun party...
Um...my Mom when I was little, really little,
My Mom always made me sing at parties, of course,
You know, like holidays and stuff and um...
I always sang, my big numbers were "The Way We Were", of course.
And uh...because "A Star is Born"...
Well, not that "The Way We Were" was in "A Star is Born",
But anyway I was a big Barbra fan, and...
And then the sun'll come out "Tomorrow".
That was my other one, because I had to be in "Annie".
I HAD to be in "Annie", and the time was just going
Because you have to be 4' 9" and smaller, otherwise forget it!
So I use to just scream at my Mom to let me audition,
But she didn't want me to be in showbiz as a kid, so...
I was like (childish voice) "I'm getting bigger! I'm gonna be five feet soon!"
Or whatever I was...anyway, so...
*sigh* So I use to sing "Tomorrow" at all the holiday gatherings, anyway...
This next song, as I ramble on,
Is about a girl who probably didn't get invited to many parties, at all.
(Audience "awwws") It goes like this.
("I'm Not that Girl" from WICKED begins)
"Hands touch, eyes meet
Sudden silence, sudden heat
Hearts leap in a giddy whirl
He could be that boy
But I'm not that girl
Don't dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember that rush of joy
He could be that boy
I'm not that girl
Ev'ry so often we long to steal
To the land of what-might-have-been
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in
Blithe smile, lithe limb
She who's winsome, she wins him
Gold hair with a gentle curl
That's the girl he chose
And Heaven knows
I'm not that girl
Don't wish, don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart
I wasn't born for the rose and pearl
There's a girl I know
He loves her so
I'm not that girl"
(Audience applause)
