Are Diet Sodas Bad For You?

Uploaded by OneMinuteSixPack on 10.08.2012

Hi I'm Nick and welcome to One Minute Six Pack. Today’s video is an answer to the
questions, “Are diet sodas bad for you?”; and “Do diet sodas make you fat?” The
short answer to both is “Yes”. Here’s why: Many different studies on diet soda have
been done recently. All have found that people who drink diet soda regularly are much more
likely to gain weight, NOT lose weight. In fact, one particular study at the University
of Texas Health Science Center made this finding: People who drank 1 or 2 diet sodas a day were
6x more likely to increase their waist size than those who didn’t drink diet soda.
The Framingham Heart Study and a recent study at Purdue University made similar findings.
Each cited some or all of these reasons: (1) First, the artificial sweeteners caused an
increase in fat storing hormone production. (2) Second, the artificial sweeteners increased
cravings for more sweets and refined carbohydrates. (3) Third, those who drank diet sodas felt
they could consume more calories during the day, and therefore, did just that. In addition
to these findings, a Northern Manhattan Study also found this: people who drank at least
1 diet soda daily, were 48% more at risk for heart attacks and strokes.
At this point, it’s pretty clear that diet soda is NOT healthy. I understand that some
of us can get very frustrated with this news. We were all deceived into believing diet sodas
were good for losing weight. Just like we were all deceived that smoking cigarettes
were healthy, several decades ago. That’s right. Google the words “old cigarette advertisements”
and click on the “images” tab. You’ll see ads with headlines like “More doctors
smoke this brand than any other cigarette.”
Now, I’m not saying that diet soda is as bad as smoking. But I am saying this: large,
multi-billion dollar companies will make any BS claim about their product to get you to
buy it. They’ll make those claims even when the weight of the evidence shows the exact
opposite to be true. Soon, the entire food industry will be exposed like the big tobacco
companies were years ago. In the meantime, don’t be fooled. Instead of diet soda, try
drinking something like: (1) lemon water, or (2) iced tea: either green, white, black,
or oolong tea. You can sweeten those up with stevia. That's all for today's video. Take
Care, and thanks for watching.
