Hey Hampton Roads! What's up? It's Barry McKay coming to you live from Adventures On The Gorge here in wild and wonderful West Virginia.
Man, oh man, I gotta tell you something. I'm tired, but it is a good tired. Been here, I think this is day number four, and I hope there's enough videotape.
I hope there's enough head room in there to get all the exciting things I was able to do here in those four short days.
I hope there's enough head room there to get all the exciting things I was able to do here in those four short days. Day one, they said, "All right Barry your goin to
Day one, they said, "All right, Barry. You're going to go do the TreeTop Tour.
Day one: they say, "All right, Barry. You're going to go do the TreeTop Tour."
So I'm thinking, "Okay, I'm going to be up in the tree tops about 12 feet. It will be done in like ten minutes." Actually, this was a zip line through the tops of trees.
So I'm thinking, "Oaky, I'm going to be up in the tree tops like 12 feet. It's going to be done in like 10 minutes. Actually, this was a zip line through the tops of trees.
That was really incredible. We were up about 80, 90, 100 feet on the TreeTop Tour. And you were actually zip-lining through the forest.
And let me tell you something. This will make you feel like you're 19 again. And what an adventure, just the experience of going from tree to tree through the beautiful woods here in West Virginia was just incredible.
Then when I finished up the TreeTop Tour, I was pretty high on adrenaline. I said, "Man, I don't know what "on a vacation" kind of thing is going to top that.
Then they said, "We're going to do the Gavity Zip Line." And I'm like, "Okay, Gravity Zip Line." This is where you go mountain to mountain, on a zip line, mid-air.
At a very comfortable speed of about 35 miles per hour. And again, I lost my voice because I'm screming so much out of pure excitement and adrenaline.
Very nice my man. That was incredible. That is awesome, awesome. Yeah, you ready for the big ones, man? I thought that was the big one.
Step right up. My golly. Not too shabby. That's as close to flying as you get right there. That's got to be as close.
So after I did all the zip line stuff. They said, "Okay, you're going to go rafting." And my first time rafting down the New River and it was incredible.
My wife was with me. She looked at me and said, "We're coming back. We're comin' back." It was so incredible.
At the half-way point we did a great lunch and I'm thinking, you know, a cracker and some water and this was incredible. This was a full spread of food. Delicious lunch meats and great chocolate pudding.
And we took a break at the half-way point and then we were back into the water. And shout out, props to Doug, our guide, who was incredible.
And again this is an adventure that you will talk about to your family and friends for years to come.
All right then before I hopped in the car and headed back to Virgina Beach, they say. "Hey, I gotta do the Bridge Walk Tour." The Bridge Walk Tour it's actually a cat walk underneath the bridge.
And you're, you know you've got a strap thing so it's super safe. Wow.
And you know what I liked about our part of it was it was all-inclusive. They've got a couple of great restaurants here. We ate at Smokey's a couple of nights. My wife said they have the best mashed potatoes.
We stayed in the Sportsman Cabin, which is fantastic accommodations. We had a shower, kitchen. It was just the two of us but there was enough beds upstairs I think for like eight people.
We had a great time. It was all-inclusive so I didn't need to get me wallet out. We had great breakfasts, great lunches, great dinners. And the food at Smokey's--fantastic.
My wife and I, we were talking on our way over to the Bridge Walk today, and we're going to take a milk jug. And we're going to start throwing our dollars and our coins in it because we're comin back next year.
This was an experience that I can't wait to show my mom and dad the footage, the videos, the pictures. My kids are going to come with me.
You know, you can't pick up a pamphlet and say, "Yeah, you know, that looks fun." You have got to come here and experience this.
When you get in that raft, and you get out on that water, and you hit your first wave, you realize that this is one of those things you're going to look back on in your life and say that's one of the top five things that I've done in my life.
And you're going to want to come back.
