Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Bournemouth 2012/13

Uploaded by BSOrchestra on 31.08.2012

Hello, my name's Petroc Trelawny; I'm a presenter on BBC Radio 3.
This is my third year being involved in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's
saturday evening concerts
across the winter months
at the Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth
and for me what's really exciting this year is that I'm more involved than ever in working with
the orchestra on choosing the music that we're going to hear and we have some real
treats coming up for you in the months ahead.
I'm very aware as we start the series in October that we're in countdown mode to the evenings drawing in and winter coming on
so we thought we'd start with a wonderful programme which brings to Bournemouth
the sunshine and warmth of southern climes.
We're following that up straight away with an all Mozart concert,
and looking to next Spring, to May 2013, it will be brilliant to welcome back
the Orchestra's Principal Conductor Kirill Karabits to conduct a wonderful programme
celebrating a hundred and twenty years
of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra here in Bournemouth.
One of the really exciting parts of this for me is the opportunity to introduce
brilliant young new talent, to introduce them both to the Orchestra
and to the audience; people whose names I think we're going to hear a lot more of
in the years ahead. We've a terrific cellist coming in February called Philip Higham
who is going to play Elgar's Cello Concerto, and then a wonderful young pianist - Alessandro Taverna -
who is going to play in March what I guess must be the most popular piano concerto
of all time
Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto.
We've spent a lot of time putting these concerts together. There's plenty for the music lover,
people who already come to lots of BSO concerts,
but if you're new to classical music, if you haven't been to a concert before, I'd say this is
the perfect introduction to music.
The world's great classics
played by one of the world's great orchestras. I really hope you can join us at the Pavilion Theatre for one, two . . .
maybe all six of our
winter concerts in the 2012/2013 Season
