I’m just truly honored and really excited to be the inaugural director of the Moore
Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition and Preventive Health. As director, I’m
just really excited about getting lots of different people together, scientists, educators,
students and community to really work together to better our lives through nutrition and
healthy foods.
The center was really spearheaded by Bob and Charlee Moore. They’re just so inspirational,
their passion has always been with their company to provide healthy foods for the communities
and that passion really is our passion and we’re really excited to work with them together
to really see how we can better our communities through healthy foods and healthy living.
We’re hoping to be an epicenter to bring nutrition to healthy families, to healthy
aging, to students and to communities abroad.
We have a lot of different programs that are going on. The gift from Bob and Charlee Moore
has really helped spearhead both research initiatives and research programs about healthy
eating, but also has helped remodel cutting-edge educational space where we can hold cooking
classes and educational experiences both for students on campus, students off campus but
also the community at large.
There’s a lot of different things that we can do, both from the basic sciences side
to the practical application, and we’re really hoping that we can bridge both in terms
of understanding what the community needs to drive our research, but also bring our
research to the communities to better their lives.
We really want the center to be the information spot that people can come to and the resource
for good information in terms of their nutritional needs, how to become a healthier person and
also give them application in terms of how they actually can do it. On top of that, really
build cutting edge science in terms of be the leader in terms of innovations for nutrition
and disease prevention and nutrition and optimal health.
We’re off to a great start, but there’s no shortage of things to do. I’m really
excited to be working with lots of different people to really get the community to live
healthier lives.
