The Ngati Porou tribal competition Pa Wars
went ahead in Tokomaru Bay today despite a recent dispute.
Te Aitanga a Hauiti isn't taking part
after recently pulling out of hosting the event,
leaving the reins to be picked up by Te Whanau a Ruataupare.
Here's Anzac Pikia.
Although Te Aitanga a Hauiti has pulled out,
the Hatearangi playing fields in Tokomaru Bay
were still packed with Ngati Porou descendants.
All because of Te Whanau a Ruataupare.
We had a short time frame
to organise things,
but with all the support that came to our aid,
everything came together today.
Ruataupare needs to be congratulated
because they made this happen.
Look, everyone is happy because this day still went ahead.
There were sports for all generations.
The spirit remained.
The spirit in all the things here help celebrate the new year.
Everybody's got their own opinion on which marae will take it out.
Who will win?
Well Hinepare of course!
All of Ngati Porou.
Hinepare Marae of Waiapu.
Hinepare is the ancestor!
Everyone wants to acknowledge Te Whanau a Ruataupare.
We commend Tate Pewhairangi
who called all of Ngati Porou to join them in Ruataupare.
So I would like to acknowledge and thank them.
It's hoped Te Aitanga a Hauiti return in good time.
Anzac Pikia, Te Karere.
