It's Buzz60 Politics, I'm Jay DeDapper.
All the headlines out of the first night of the Democratic Convention are about Michele
Obama -- naturally -- but what happened in the five hours -- yes FIVE hours before the
networks tuned in?
Here are the Top 3 things you missed.
#1 "Would a little enthusiasm kill you?" The Dems hauled out former Republicans all
night to talk about why they've left their party -- but the crowd, wasn't exactly welcoming.
“The lack of fiscal responsibility is one of the main reasons I left my old party…[tepid
applaus]…That’s right, that’s right.”
People, at least try to be interested.
#2 "The New Kennedy" A Democratic convention without a Kennedy
at the podium? It was a real possibility after Sen. Ted Kennedy died but his grand nephew,
Joseph Kennedy the third picked up the torch and is running for Congress. He certainly
looks the part but, um, where's the accent?
“This is the first convention since 1956 that we meet without Senator Kennedy but make
no mistake, he is with us here this evening.”
Finally #3 "Is 6PM the New Primetime?" Why else would planners think burying Newark,
New Jersey Mayor Corey Booker when absolutely no one is watching, was a good idea?
"When your country is in a costly war with our soldiers sacrificing abroad and our nation
is facing a debt crisis at home, being asked to pay your fair share isn't class warfare.
It's patriotism!"
New Jersey can't win. Republicans put Governor Chris Christie in primetime and he bombed.
Booker burns it up and nobody sees it. The Garden State gets no respect!
